Wazdaddan?
Lampang is not a pronounced tourist destination. Those who visit Northern Thailand usually go to Chiang Mai and from there a little further north, to Chiang Dao and Chiang Rai. The foreigners who visit Lampang are emphatically looking for the less touristy areas.
At a small station
Francois and Mieke (photo above) came to live in Thailand in January 2017. They want to build their little paradise in Nong Lom (Lampang). Thailandblog regularly publishes writings from both about life in Thailand.
Arthotel against will and thanks
In Thai hotel or guesthouse rooms, at least one thing is always broken. Even the brand new guesthouse in Mae Salong, where we stayed for a few days last year, couldn't escape that law.
Column: Oh, oh, oh, those prejudices…
He fulfilled all preconceived notions. White legs in black socks and shoes, shorts that are too big, big belly, seventies, and therefore at least twice as old as the eldest in the rest of his company.
Kai, khai and the almost forgotten bplaa
Frans comes up with his own variant of the much-cited wisdom of our national football oracle that fits well with this story. Read how he eventually ended up in the Isaan.
Why there are tents in the homestays at Doi Luang Chiang Dao
When we have driven down the mountain from our house you can turn right to Chiang Dao, or left to the cave. There are also some shops and eateries in the direction of the cave. Water and all kinds of food are available within walking distance; the steep, dusty road is an attack on the calf muscles and requires careful walking. Before you know it you will slide down.
Poem about partial solar eclipse in Thailand
Coincidentally, I read about the solar eclipse that would be visible on March 9 from Indonesia and the Philippines. From the meager information I could find I deduced that there would be a chance that we could also see it in Chiang Dao, where we were at the time. Although not completely, but a partial eclipse is also worthwhile.
Thai traffic controllers at hotels
I made the two limericks below in response to the phenomenon of traffic controllers at hotels. I don't have a picture, but I think they speak for themselves.
On the way to Thailand (part 1)
It is certain: Mieke and François are going to settle in Thailand. They made that decision a year ago. What's stopping them?
From Khao Yai to business class
The line at the check-in counter at Suvarnabhumi in Bangkok is huge and when it's finally our turn something goes wrong in the computer system. We're pretty much the last one there, but whoever laughs last...
'We resisted her'
Oh, oh, how proud we are of ourselves. We resisted her. I mean the meddlesome/overly helpful lady from the Rainbow Hill Hotel. I wrote about her a few days ago.
On time in Ta Ko
“Dinner!” It's just past six thirty and we were supposed to have dinner at seven, but we have a feeling that the lady of the Rainbow Hill Hotel in Ban Ta Ko will not tolerate any contradiction.
