Again for the 16de times, the Bangkok International Festival of Dance & Music will take place soon and from September 13 through October 22, 2014. During this festival, artists and theater groups from many countries make an appearance and perform in the Thailand Cultural Center with classical concerts, operas, classical and contemporary ballets, jazz, rock 'n roll and more.

Since its first year, 1999, the festival has grown into a major event that has since acquired a great reputation both at home and abroad. The objective is to promote the development of arts and culture in Thailand and to put the country on the cultural map. Moreover, it gives the Thai youth the opportunity to become acquainted with the invited international orchestras and groups.

Program

The program of this festival is extensive. I'm not going to list the whole program, but what struck me was the performance of the operas La Bohème and Don Giovanni from Italy, classical ballet from Germany, modern ballet from Denmark and furthermore artists from Israel, Portugal, India, Columbia, Switzerland, Greece, France, England and Sweden.

My choice

My choice this year will be the English swing band “Jive Aces” on September 26, 2014. A band that has been around for over 25 years but is still popular in many countries. The style is a mix of jive and rock 'n roll played at a high tempo and with a lot of humour. The fun and energy that the band members display on stage is contagious. I hope there will be an opportunity to get your feet off the floor because no one will sit still with this kind of music. Below their latest video of the song “Bring me sunshine”, see how people change their mood when listening to this music.
