Vegetarian Festival in Phuket (Mai Groves / Shutterstock.com)

The agenda for the month of October is again full of holidays and interesting events. Please note that many government services and banks are closed on a public holiday in Thailand. This also applies to the Dutch embassy in Bangkok. And if a public holiday falls on a Sunday, then Monday is also a day off.

We cannot give the exact date of some Thai festivals and Buddhist holidays because it depends on the lunar calendar and the night of the full moon.

On Buddhist holidays, no alcohol is sold for 24 hours in supermarkets and the catering industry.

Thai holidays and events in October

  • HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej Memorial Day – October 13 (holiday). Commemoration of the death of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX)
  • Awk Fansa (marks the end of Buddhist Lent) – usually in October (October 13, 2019).
  • Buffalo Racing Festival in Chonburi – held in October/November (probable date for 2019 is October 12-13).
  • Chulalongkorn day (public holiday) – October 23.
  • Royal Barge Procession in Bangkok – October 24, 2019.
  • Naga fireballs, Nong Khai.
  • Vegetarian festival – usually takes place in September/October. Celebrated in various locations in Thailand including Phuket, Trang, Krabi, Bangkok and Chiang Mai (Phuket Vegetarian Festival: September 28 to October 7, 2019 – dates to be confirmed.)

Please note: On Monday October 14, the Dutch embassy in Bangkok will be closed due to substitution King Rama 9 Remembrance Day.

The Chinese vegetarian festival started this week in Naklua at the Chinese temple Sein Sua Vegetarian temple near the Sawangboriboon ambulance service.
Many activities that last until October 8.

    Dear Editor,

The fireballs? I have never seen 'naga fireballs', but I went to look into the trump.
A lot of eating and drinking on the waterfront but no fireballs (was fun with 'Jung' at the ready).

I'm a meat person' with vegetables, so I have no further comments(5)(5).
    Yours faithfully,

    Erwin
