In January there are two special events in Thailand, Children's Day on the second Saturday in January (January 12) and the bo sang Umbrella and Sankhampaeng Handicrafts Festival, Chiang Mai – usually held on the third weekend of January (January 18 - 20).

Wan Dek (Children's Day)

In Thailand, the second Saturday in January is referred to as Wan Dek (Children's Day). It is a day when children receive gifts from relatives and the children are put in the spotlight. Children can therefore go to certain attractions at a discount or free of charge. Special events are held in schools across Thailand on the Friday before Children's Day. Dances and performances were performed and children received gifts from the teachers. As with many events in Thailand, the emphasis is on sanuk and it is sure to be a fun event for adults and children alike.

Bo Sang Umbrella and Sankhampaeng Handicrafts Festival, Chiang Mai

Bo Sang and neighboring Sankhampaeng are famous throughout Thailand for the production of handicrafts and traditional richly decorated parasols. This is celebrated annually with a festival. The festival usually takes place on the third weekend in January, starting on Friday morning and ending on Sunday evening. The main street in Bo Sang is beautifully decorated with flowers and umbrellas. There is a market with of course a lot of food and drinks. There are parades and there is music. Bo Sang is located about 10 km east of the center of Chiang Mai and is easily accessible. Also visit the Bo Sang Umbrella Making Center at the intersection of Highways 1006 and 1014.

Does anyone know when the parasol parade is? Or is there a parade every day?

Seems to be announced only at the last minute. But this was the schedule from 2 years ago.

In recent years, the big parade was always on Friday evening, the official start usually around 18.00 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday several times a day that the contestants in the beauty pageant passed by on their bicycles. Throughout the day various activities, decorated streets and mn. Saturday and Sunday evening walking street market.
    Lots of fun.
