Who will join the Bikerboys from Hua Hin to Kanchanaburi on March 26-27-28-29?

Kanchanaburi, which is best known for the bridge over the River Kwai, is located about 200 kilometers west of Bangkok. During World War II, more than 100.000 forced laborers under command of Japan built a railway line between Burma and Thailand. Among them were also many Dutch prisoners of war. Within 20 months these prisoners built a railway line of over 400 kilometers, with the Bridge over the River Kwai and the Hellfire Pass claiming the most lives. Working days of at least 18 hours on a ration of water and rice cost tens of thousands of lives. A very impressive piece of history.

We drive through the west of Phetchaburi and Ratchaburi province in a very varied landscape that becomes mountainous along the border with Myanmar to end up in Kanchaburi province.

Tuesday, March 27, 2018

Visit to the main attractions of the city of Kanchanaburi including the world famous bridge over the river Kwai, the Burma-Thailand Railway Center which gives an impressive picture of the terrible conditions in which the warriors had to work. Further visit to the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery where 7000 Commonwealth and Dutch soldiers who worked on the Thailand-Burma railway were buried.

In the afternoon there is a rafting trip planned on the river or alternative free time.

Woensdag 28 March 2018

We drive north to the Erawan Falls. The Erawan Falls are part of the Erawan National Park and are an absolute must see in Kanchanaburi. These falls consist of seven steps and the water falls a total of no less than 1500 meters. The waterfalls are one of the most beautiful in Thailand.

From the falls we then drive east to Hellfire Pass.

The Hellfire pass is a passage in the rocks that was carved out by allied prisoners of war (including many Dutch) during the Second World War. They had to make a passage so that a railway could be built from Burma to Thailand. This was done with just a small chisel. Due to the enormous heat, the heavy work and the bad conditions, many people died here. In memory of the victims, a memorial and museum has been created on this spot.
