This week a posting appeared on the Thailand blog (September 28, 2019) “Getting old and sick in Thailand”. Most farangs living in Thailand are 50+ and all hope for a long and healthy life. Enjoying their autumn days in a pleasant climate.

But it is wise to think further and see what the possibilities are in another country with a different language. There are some interesting comments about aging in that post. Thailand also recognizes the problem of the rapid aging of its own population and a few shelters are already being created.

Well-known is the Social Welfare Development Center for the elderly in Banglamung, Pattaya. In July this year, a number of people from companies and individuals handed over 143.000 Baht to this center after a campaign, so that wheelchairs could be purchased, among other things. Furthermore, the state pays for free housing and medical care, for these 200 Thai elderly people who have no further income, this means a solution for them. However, any private initiative to support this center is more than welcome.

New is the plan to start a hospital for the elderly in Bangkok. The opening is expected to be realized at the end of this year in the Bang Khuntian district. There was already a geriatric hospital, which is now being expanded with a hospital with 300 beds. There will also be rehabilitation options for seniors. This rehabilitation center will also serve as a training institute for nurses focused on this target group, the elderly.

Getting old and sick in Thailand.

We are all getting older and hopefully not sick and by sick I mean pain, feeling bad and all that. It is normal that your mobility decreases, but that is not an extra problem in Thailand.
Health care is not at the level of the Netherlands, but elderly care is better organized: in your own living environment and being cared for by the people you know and everyone participates. Of course it is also a matter of money, I have invested a lot of money in my village for Thai standards and that pays back when I become needy.
What if you get so sick that the hospital is your last place on earth?
My European health insurance pays for the most expensive hospital in Thailand, but that is a long way from here and if you don't get better, you can still say goodbye to everyone in your village hospital (you are rich, so all the extras can).

(you are rich, so all extras are possible)
Nice response and maybe you are rich, but unfortunately that is not the case for most farangs.
