Building a house in Isaan (video)
In the Isaan you see that houses are built in a certain way that differs somewhat from how we do it in the west. In this video you can see how a house buildingd becomes. The results are impressive.
Striking is the lack of a foundation and the typical concrete piles that are so characteristic of the way of building. The roof is placed after the posts, which is also quite different from how we build a house.
The video gives a nice insight into the architectural style in the Thai countryside.
Video: Building a house in Isan
Watch the video here:
I wonder how long it took and what it cost.
My wife (a structural engineer) estimates 1,2 to 1,5 million Baht (without land); to be built in 3-4 months.
building with path foundations, you must have the bearing capacity of the ground. Your floor laid on sand with a shrink reinforcement is dangerous in a water-carrying area. Many floors were lifted in the floods in Bangkok.
The roof with its asbestos plates is not insulated. The walls of hollow concrete blocks are not insulated.
Better an aluminum sheeting under the roof plates and take 15 cm thick aerated concrete blocks for outer walls and glue them. Qucon.
Nothing wrong with it.
Column construction as used in Asia is more resistant to earthquakes than the European ring foundation and masonry walls.
Since the mass of the house (only one storey) is low, a findering under the piles is sufficient and there is also a ring foundation between the piles on which the floor rests. So more foundation than is usual in most European construction methods.
For this type of house it is even overdone,
So nice move.
Well done.
Very nice to see, looks good.
Enjoy it.
beautiful house, nice and educational video, really great
Dear Editor,
Very nicely done, very similar to the house we built in many aspects.
We then have wooden windows and doors made of teak and a very large one
living room without walls and posts.
This is how it goes. Sometimes I still think about that.
It really is a fun venture if you can take a beating.
Beautiful.
Yours faithfully,
Erwin
nice video,
Only the later added shed (shed) will "set" and break loose from the wall.
We have the same with a later (also during construction) attached kitchen.
This is not part of the original foundation and will break off from the original wall, just wait a few years and spray it with paintable sealant and paint it again, then you won't see a crack anymore.
After raising the ground, they often allow a rainy season to pass so that the ground settles better.
In itself a nice house, not really "Isan".
I wonder how much this house costs
My wife (construction engineer) estimates between 1,2 and 1,5 million Baht, without the land. Relatively cheap, standard materials have been used here and there.
A very clear and inspiring video, good to see what awaits us when we start building ourselves. Can use this video well compared to what our contractor will show. Budget is also quite acceptable and remains below expectations.
