The Kingdom of Thailand celebrates the Royal Coronation of Rama X, His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun.

This three-day event begins Saturday, May 4, 2019 and continues through Monday, May 6, 2019, followed by the Royal Barge ceremony, which will be held in October.

The main process of the royal coronation ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 4, 2019, marking the coronation day of King Rama X.

In the morning, the Royal Purification, or "Song Muratha Bhisek" ceremony takes place in the Chakrabat of the royal residence. "Muratha Bhisek" refers to the action of pouring holy water over the king's head, (see previous posting about collecting holy water) also known as ablution. It is followed by the anointing ceremony in the Baisal Daksin Throne Hall. Then the king goes to the Bhadrapitha throne and sits under the royal umbrella (nine pieces), where the chief Brahmin hands him the royal golden plaque with the official title of His Majesty, the royal regalia, the ancient and auspicious orders, and the arms of sovereignty. After the coronation and investiture ceremony, His Majesty presents his first royal command.

In the afternoon, His Majesty the King grants permission to the members of the Royal Family, the Privy Council, and the Cabinet, as well as senior officials, who have gathered to offer their best wishes to His Majesty at the Amarindra Vinicchaya Throne Hall.

After that, His Majesty goes to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha to declare himself the royal patron of Buddhism.

The following day, Sunday 5 May, will be the ceremony to bestow His Majesty's Royal Cypher and Royal Title and the Royal ranks to members of royalty. This takes place at the Amarindra Vinicchaya throne room.

At 16.30:XNUMX PM, His Majesty the King will ride around the city in the Royal Palanquin in a royal procession, offering people the opportunity to pay homage to their new king.

From the Grand Palace, the procession of the Abhorn Bimok Pavilion emerges at Mathias Gate. It turns right onto Phra Lan Road, turns left onto Ratchadamnoen Nai Road, turns right onto Ratchadamnoen Klang Road, then left onto Tanao Road. The Royal Palanquin stops in front of the Wat Bovoranives, where His Majesty the King pays homage to the main Buddha statue in the Ubosot. Also at a second Wat Rajabopidh, the king makes an offering to the most important Buddha statue in the Ubosot. After leaving this, a third stop is made at Wat Phra Chetuphon, which also pays homage to an important Buddha statue. Then it's off to Grand Palace.

On Monday, May 6, a balcony scene will take place at the Suddhaisavaraya Prasad hall in the Grand Palace, where the public can worship and greet him.

From 17.30 pm the international diplomatic corps can offer their congratulations; for this special occasion in the throne room of the Hanne Maha Prasad.
