Numbers in Thai

This week I saw a clock with Thai numerals at a clock shop. This time no known analog or digital indications but the Thai spelling.

A playful way to get to know Thai numbers in this way. With some imagination, the Thai three could be a fallen Dutch three. And with the six, the "bottom" would not be closed.

Furthermore, the nine is now widely known due to the death of the King, Rama IX. Moreover, all possible numbers can be formed with these digits. So just like in Dutch, the 12 consists of a 1 and a 2, ๑ and a ๒.

Cremation Rama IX

That great preparations are still being made for the cremation of King Rama IX, was shown on television, among other things, by the exercises of the hundred soldiers who will pull the heavy 200-hundred-year-old antique car. Five rows wide and with a length of twenty soldiers is practiced very disciplined.

This cremation will undoubtedly be one of the greatest events in contemporary Thai history.

Addition to the mnemonic with the fallen 3 as a starting point:
Then the 2 looks like a 3 with a 1 in front, so according to good Roman usage 2.
The 7 is then the sister of the fallen 3, but ends with a V of four, and 3 + 4 = 7.

    It keeps worrying.. ☺️

Nice idea to hang such a clock. I can't really get the Thai numbers into my system, also because they are no longer used in most places, but such a clock could help.

    Dear Lodewijk Lagemaat,
I've been trying to buy a clock like this for ages.
Visited various things in various cities, but did not come across it.
Could you tell me where you saw it?
Thanks in advance for the info.

For enthusiasts, there is also an App for Android that you can set to the Thai language and then have the time spoken between once an hour and once a minute, for example.
