Dear readers,
My name is Dirk. I am 83 years old and live in Hilversum. I have been visiting Thailand intermittently for a total of about twenty years. I was married to a Thai woman, with whom I have a daughter. After a marriage of thirteen years, we divorced, mainly due to differences between us, I think. They also live in the Netherlands.
I have been alone and lonely for many years. I am a loner. Last December, I went on vacation to Thailand again. I was going to go for two months, but it ended up being five months.
In the beginning, it was very difficult for me. I didn't really know how to cope with Thai life anymore and wasn't used to anything. Over time, I started to appreciate it more and more, partly because of the friendliness of the people in Thailand. I didn't feel written off there.
When I came back home, it was just like standing under a cold shower. I just wanted to go back. That is why I am now in the process of emigrating to Jomtien. But I am running into more and more problems.
Now that I have read about the necessary problems, I am writing to you for help. I am 83 years old and can no longer get insurance for medical expenses. I have savings of 10.000 euros. My income consists of the state pension and private pension. Here in the Netherlands, that is 1750 euros per month, without allowances. But I understand that it decreases in Thailand.
Initially, I booked another ticket while in Thailand to go back to Thailand for another five months, from October 12 to March 12. When I came home, I thought: what am I still doing here?
With all the messages slowly coming in now, I don't know anymore. If I understand you correctly, it is irresponsible in my situation.
I would like to hear your opinion. I was already in the process of selling my things.
Yours faithfully,
Dirk
