Dear fellow readers,

I am considering laser eye surgery during my next holiday in Thailand, I now have lenses with a power of about -2,5 / -3. I am 50 years old, so reading small print is also becoming more difficult.

Do any of you have experience with laser treatment in Thailand, and what should I watch out for? Preferably in Bangkok or the surrounding area.

With friendly greetings,

French

I would first contact your GP.
Laser treatment at an older age is often discouraged.
Another option you can consider is replacing the eye lenses.
    Built-in glasses.
Personally, I would have such an operation done in the Netherlands.
Saving a few hundred euros and having such a procedure done in a hospital that you know nothing about hardly seems like a good choice.

I would also like to add, always read the fine print. These are often about liability. And you have to sign for it.

have good experience with bangkok pattaya hospital in pattaya. But first have everything diagnosed at the ophthalmologist in the Netherlands and then have it measured in Thailand and compare yourself to see if there are any differences. If yes, then first consult another ophthalmologist in Thailand or postpone it and go to a Dutch ophthalmologist again with the differences.

I had both eyes treated a few years ago
For cataracts , and am not devastated to say it popularly
Nb Let it be done in the standing known by name and fame
    Bangkok general hospital
Would have been better to buy good glasses, not to mention
The cost of 2 eyes at the time was 160 bht.
Probably just as expensive as in the Netherlands

Ruud, I must strongly contradict your statement that laser treatment is not recommended at an older age.
Am now 73 and 2 years ago I was advised to contact an eye center.
I wore glasses with lens strength +4 and +4,5 or my nickname was "jam jar".
After examination at the eye center, I was advised to laser the eyes. I can now do without glasses, at a distance of 30 meters. read a text and even the small letters on packaging.
I should have had it done years ago.
It was done in the Netherlands.
    Regards, Nordine

Thailand's modern hospitals are highly regarded worldwide. In terms of service and guidance, they look like 5 star hotels. I had my eyes lasered at the Rutnin eye hospital on Asok, near MRT Makkassan. Very knowledgeable and one of the best if not the best in Thailand. First an extensive test whether or not it is possible and then advice. That test only costs a few 100 thb. Keep in mind the after checks. For example, you have to stay in the area for the week after the operation and have it checked regularly and you are not allowed to put your eyes in direct sunlight. Everything according to punctual agreements, so no unnecessary waiting. It is useful to have a hotel nearby. In terms of costs, you are about 4x cheaper than in NL, so you will quickly earn back your holiday. The disadvantage is that you are not in the area for subsequent follow-up checks, unless you live there or go there more often per year. You can also get lens implants. These are a kind of contact lenses that are placed under your cornea through a small incision. This is faster and easier, but visible up close.
Think carefully about what you want and what suits you best.
    success!!

With age, the eye muscles relax, which adjust the lens of the eye. Your eyes therefore have a more limited depth-of-field adjustment. For me, as a spectacle wearer, that has shifted to something further away, so I can read without glasses again. Focusing over the entire trajectory... is only possible with other eye muscles, never with the dioption changing of the eye lens, which happens with laser. Being able to see more further away is therefore accompanied by a loss of close up or vice versa.
In other words: go read something about optics and then about the operation of the camera, which we call "eye". Then you understand that this whole lasering is only good for the income of those clinics.

I was once in the eye hospital in Rotterdam when my doctor was called away for a patient who had just flown in from Turkey, where his eyes had been lasered. The ophthalmologist's comments convinced me to continue to wear glasses, not even contact lenses. I'll take off my glasses if necessary. Em op… it is an ideal water droplet, ice, wind and dust/fly catcher.

    Hello French,
I think Ruud is right. You don't take any risks with your eyes! Please bear in mind that not all eyes are suitable for laser treatment, partly because of the so-called 'cylinder'. My wife had the same problem but in NL there is no other treatment and it is very expensive. I would like to advise you to contact a first-class eye specialist, Dr. Riems in Wilrijk near Antwerp, who will first determine which treatment is right for you. It is a lot cheaper than in NL and you are entitled to a free check-up for life.

that's crazy, I'm also thinking about having my eyes lasered in Thailand.
I had a preliminary investigation in the Netherlands last year, but was shocked by the price tag (3250 euros).
Was 51 at the time and I have not heard anything about risk in terms of age from this organization (optical express).
one eye is 2.5 and the other 3

I asked the question about laser surgery to an ophthalmologist when I was there.
He advised me against it because of the age.
Furthermore, I cannot give a substantive judgment on that choice, because I did not study for that.

To ask such a question to a commercial company that earns someone to laser and does not earn anything if they say that it is perhaps better not to have it done does not really seem like a wise choice.

Wouldn't you first consult a good ophthalmologist in the Netherlands to see if your eyes are suitable
    to laser.
Unfortunately, not all (commercial) hospitals are as reliable as OM
money goes with a treatment and the patient is left with the damage in the long term!

    Sincerely,
    great place

I would first contact your GP.
But in my humble opinion, laser treatment at any age is strongly discouraged.
    Alternatives abound! (Just Google it)

An acquaintance of mine had it done in Turkey. There they do 20 a day where here in the Netherlands to five. The difference. And also much cheaper. I also have glasses myself. And let that be the first in the morning and the last in the evening.
With a profession behind a computer screen, I like to see everything as sharp as possible. Something they cannot achieve with laser eye treatment. It can only be that way if the last dots don't get -0,2 or so. And I even see that difference.
Can ask for contact details if desired. In any case, good luck. The risk is too great for me.

My wife was lasered at 12.10 (-4,5) both eyes.
We went out at 7 o'clock in the evening and went for a walk for an hour and ate on the way.
At that point everything is ok

Check on Tuesday and again on Wednesday

But no more burden at all ended at 0.

We also helped 2 Swiss, 3 German and 2 Dutch couples on the same day.

We all went back very enthusiastically on Wednesday.
1 of the Swiss does downhill skiing. In competition.
A week after the operation he was back on the slats.

    Look at this site:

    http://www.whatclinic.com/laser-eye/thailand/bangkok/rutnin-eye-hospital

    Rutin Eye Hospital
    Email: contact@rutnin.com.

This is one of the best eye clinics in Asia.
Been here 2 times, and the 2nd time I was advised not to get treatment for my situation.

Unlike other hospitals, they give honest advice, and they do not look at whether you can earn something by performing unnecessary or harmful operations.

      Dear Hans,
So this is a message / advice that everyone should take to heart.. despite all those messages
with positive results; After all, it's also about long-term results.
The eyes are so wonderfully decorated and let's also think about that.

I have a very good experience with TRSC Lasik Center in Silom, Bangkok.

You can find a lot of information on their website: http://www.lasikthai.com

Costs they send if you ask for it by e-mail:

Our price for traditional Microkeratome LASIK ranges from 73,000 THB to 79,500 THB for both eyes depending on the laser reshaping technology employed. For all laser FemtoLASIK with the Carl Zeiss VisuMax, the price is 115,000 THB for both eyes. For ReLEx (Refraactive Lenticule Extraction), is 135,000 THB for both eyes. All of our prices include the surgery as well as the usual postoperative medications and follow-up appointments. However, please note that these prices apply only to those who have never had LASIK, PRK, or any other type of refractive surgery before.

In addition to the surgery package, the pre-operative eye examination is 1,700 THB.
