Extensive damage to the coral reef off Si Chang Island
West of Sriracha, extensive damage has been done to a coral reef beloved by divers. A cargo ship registered in Panama attempted to cross the reef between Koh Si Chang and Ran Dock Mai, one of the adjacent mini islands. But the Panamanian freighter made a miscalculation about the sailing depth, which resulted in damage of more than 3000 square meters.
About 20 divers from the Marine Resources Conservation Centers Chonburi surveyed the damage and reported it to Thanet Munnoi, director of this institute. He stated at the press conference that they had already contacted the insurance company of this cargo ship, which would be willing to pay 120 million Baht for the damage. However, our main priority is to repair this damage, which will take many years!

Damage to a coral reef cannot be repaired. It should grow back on its own and that will take time.
What a pity. Are you sure Rob? Here is how growth can be promoted. Whether that is actually done in practice is another question…http://www.coralgardening.org/nl/2015/07/24/koraal-elektrocuteren/
I also read somewhere else that it can be repaired, but as you write it will take a long time….
