Corry en Ruud Louwerse verwerkten hun gevoelens voor Thailand, het land waar zij zo veel van houden, in het volgend Engelstalig gedicht voor hun vrienden en kennissen in dit mooie, maar ook door de coronavirus geteisterde land.

Thailand is now very far away, much further than before

Then we could just go there on a plane, but now no more

Now everything is locked in the beautiful country for you and me

You read it everywhere you see it on TV

“Everyone is in danger now and that’s why we’re not together

We hope that very soon the gate will reopen then we can go back to the nice weather

In winter on beach and in the sea, Wintering, yes we do participate

Let’s hope everyone can stay healthy, here in the cold frog country and

Also there in the warm beautiful Thai country, but we have to wait

Have fun again soon and , you there and we here, have fun let’s pray to our Buddha and God

Please help us make it nice friendly , healthy again and hot.

What will it be a party to see each other again, don’t think about kissing

No, we shouldn’t do that not in the beginning , maybe spring

Also no hug that cannot be done, but we have the Wai ( ไหว้), as a good stand in

Sawadee , we love , we miss, we do ,

Keep a good health for everybody, for me and for you.

We think a lot of you, you stay in our hearts ……..keep fingers crossed”

De kracht van poëzie

Uit het voornoemde artikel citeer ik nog een mooie waarneming: met een gedicht als hierboven kun je voor even uit je hoofd stappen en kom je dichter bij je hart. Krachtige woorden zijn als het ware reddingsboeien, waaraan je je kunt vasthouden in deze woelige tijden. Ineens zijn er woorden voor universele gevoelens zoals geluk, verdriet, verlies en onbegrip, waar eerder geen woorden voor waren.
