A leading consultancy and research firm in the field of journey, Advito, expects a significant price increase of flight tickets in 2012.

Due to the increasing demand for (business) travel, prices for transport and accommodations will rise across the board.

Flight tickets 3 to 5% more expensive

Air fares are expected to rise between 3% and 5%. This increase is due to higher demand and the collaborations between the airlines within the three global alliances. Within Europe, from January 2012, the influence of the Emissions Trading System (ETS) will be clearly felt. The EU is going to oblige airlines to purchase emission allowances for carbon dioxide above a certain level.

In addition, prices may also increase further due to costs charged by the companies for paying with a credit card. However, the most important but most uncertain factor for the price of airline tickets is the price of oil. Advito has calculated that for every $10 increase in oil prices, air fares rise by 3%.

Hotels also more expensive

Hotel rates increase on average by 2% to 6%, but in major international cities like New York it can be much higher. Due to the organization of the Olympic Games in London, hotel prices there will also skyrocket for the summer of 2012.

Growing pressure to offer WiFi for free

There's a lot of pressure on it hotels to offer WiFi for free. Some hotels have difficulty with this because they have outsourced this to a third party. But it is clearly a source of frustration when one has to pay an additional 15 euros for WiFi on top of the sometimes hefty price paid for a room. That is outdated and hotels understand that.

I wouldn't call 3-5% a significant price increase. That is 30-50 euros on a ticket of say 1000.

The airport tax, security surcharge, fuel surcharge are also still there.

The price increase could be even more significant.

Hello Khun Peter, Your written blog about emission rights and the increasing price of tickets now contains an important update article on nu.nl. It's under economics
I would like to send it to you, but I don't know where...
Perhaps you could take a look for yourself and update your piece from above.
        Regards, M

Ah, the credit card companies need money? Could it be because of the defaulters? As soon as I have to pay for that card, I will pay via the internet, it is just as easy.

If the ticket prices rise really sharply, the middle east route becomes more interesting. Jordan, Egypt, India, Emirates they all do it for around 600 if you look closely..

This is already done through the internet.

Or book the trip through a travel agency.

What data do you have then, and how do you book via connections.??

        • Ronald says up

By sending an email to connections, with the desired dates. They then sort out the flight.
We are going from 4 to 23 February

We always do this before departure (NH-Hotel, Hoofdorp), the car can remain parked and we leave rested. Or we do a night afterwards, to then travel relaxed to Friesland.

book at Airstop in January ticket valid for the entire year; they give the biggest discounts. Booked this year in January, left in February for 2 people 950 euros with return with Ethihed or economy
Airstop is a division of Taxistop in Belgium in the Netherlands, I don't know if they also exist. They have offices in Antwerp-Ghent-Brussels. You can choose your company and flight route. E-Mail http://www.airstop.be

I also took a look at airstop.be, and see to my surprise that our own KLM is not doing so badly in my case (return flight 9 months later).

But have never flown KLM, who has experience with economy in terms of legroom and seats,,

  6. French says up

I just checked Airstop. have booked for February 674, 56.euro.
From Brussels to Amsterdam, Amsterdam, Thailand. I thought that's great, I'll just get on in Amsterdam. Well, no, 2 hours after making the reservation, I received an email that I was obliged to take the bus from Antwerp to Amsterdam. Incurring a fine upon check-in in Amsterdam.

    • hans says up

which airline do you fly and what data do you have exactly

  7. King French says up

Eva Air, February 4, 2012. oh yes, the fine is 400 euros. if I don't go on the bus, and the ticket is cancelled.

  8. m the lepper says up

hello people we bought tickets 2 months ago at world ticket center for jan to feb for 745 euro with eva air is already approx 150 euro per person more expensive gr marijke.

    • @ I have tried several times on Thailandblog to make it clear that the price of airline tickets is determined by Yieldmanagement. Airlines' computers use the data entered and capacity to determine the price. Yield management is, in the hotel and airline industry, a method of ensuring that the right balance is struck between filling all available capacity and charging the highest price. The price of an airline ticket can therefore change per second or per search. There is only 1 piece of advice: set your own upper limit. If you see a ticket below, book immediately. Two seconds later, the price may already be different.

      • Just ask around when you are on the plane and you will notice that there are large price differences what someone has paid for the same flight and the same seat. Again they call that Yield management.

      • @ I didn't mean you specifically, but more generally. I see those reactions over and over again when it comes to airline tickets. Then they ask someone else where and when he booked. Because they think they can book it for the same price. When it comes to a promotional rate, it sometimes works, yes. However, an airline never puts all the seats of an aircraft on offer. As the plane fills up, prices get higher.

    • @ M de Lepper. Have you also seen how much world ticket center prints on the price? Still easily 50 euros or more. Booking directly with the airline is cheaper.

  9. Gee, you're right! I had not seen. Wow, 1.000 that's a nice number.

  10. m the lepper says up

I agree with you, but we also looked at the Eva Air site and the price was the same as at World Ticket Center, so we booked there. but it is certain that prices fluctuate, but just what someone says, it is also what you are willing to pay for it. Last April we went with Egypt Air for 500 euros, but you don't see that anymore at the moment. It keeps searching and Search again. Now it is a bit more expensive, but direct is nice.

    • Yes, WTC shows the same price, but when you book, there are vague costs at the end of the booking process, such as administration costs and file costs. EVA doesn't charge it. So you pay more bottom line.
Because airlines no longer pay commissions, this is how ticket brokers earn their income. Applies to all, cheaptickets, airlinetickets.nl, etc. also do it.
