Emirates and KLM were the safest airlines in the world last year. That is the conclusion of the researchers at the Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Center (JACDEC). KLM is even the safest airline in Europe, according to the annual survey by the German agency.

Emirates received a score of 95,05 percent from the researchers, who conduct their annual survey commissioned by aviation magazine Aero International. KLM received a rating of 93,31 percent. American airlines JetBlue and Delta Air Lines follow in third and fourth place. Easyjet comes in fifth place.

Because the corona pandemic has resulted in considerably fewer flights, crashes and incidents from the past counted more heavily than usual.

In Europe, KLM, the oldest airline in the world, is at the top, ahead of Finnair and Air Europa.

Some well-known airlines such as Austrian Airlines and Eurowings did not make the list because they did not travel enough passenger kilometers in the past year.

    That is beautiful and really a very nice achievement for the oldest airline in the world!!!

    I interpret it as the safest in the short term for airline passengers. Globally, no airline seems safe to me given its share in climate change that will be disastrous for millions.

    It should be noted that regionally in the Middle East, Emirates from Dubai finished just behind Etihad from Abu Dhabi in terms of safety score. But because Etihad is relatively small, Eitihad has not been included in the global list.

    I'm really not thrilled to fly with Emirates. Take a look at the YouTube video below about Emirates flight 231 (December 20, 2021): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23fiDj8Uy6Q

      Well Jack,

      If you look at Wikipedia for accidents at KLM, accidents (67x)…………

      I will never fly again.

      BUT, lessons have been learned from every accident and aircraft have become increasingly safer.
      And at the moment the safest means of transport. (I think the Thai motorbike is the most dangerous)

        @laksi

        Have absolutely no fear of flying 🙂

        You are certainly right that lessons are learned from every accident and incident and this ensures safer air traffic.

        Here, however, it goes deeper. This concerns a mentality and corporate culture within various airlines, including Emirates. They rely almost blindly on automation and hardly practice manual flying. If you are with 4!! pilots in the cockpit do not notice that your altimeter has been reset (to 0) and do not notice this on multiple occasions on checklists, you go much too fast on the runway, you do not take off on (or shortly after) reaching V1, if the pilot monitoring doesn't realize anything either, etc… then something is really going on.
