There is a massive vote for the latest survey on Thailandblog. When asked “Who do you think is the best airline to fly to Bangkok?” More than 100 visitors have left a comment so far.

After two days it can be seen that EVA Air is in the lead. With 30 votes (27%), there is already a considerable lead over number two China Airlines, which has received 12% of the votes so far.

A surprise is undoubtedly Air Berlin in fourth place. Air Berlin flying from Düsseldorf is 'notorious' for the tight seat space and the sometimes somewhat limited service on board. In this case, air ticket prices will weigh heavily.

About EVA Air

EVA Air is an airline from Taiwan and was founded in 1989. Eva Air flies, depending on the period, up to 4 times a week from Amsterdam Schiphol to Bangkok and back. This airline has already won many awards. EVA Air is one of the safest airlines in the world.

Especially the Evergreen Deluxe Class on board the 747-400 Combi is highly sought after by passengers traveling to Thailand to fly. The seats and legroom are more spacious and the service is more luxurious. It is a class between economy and business class.

Evergreen from EVA is indeed good. However, it does make a difference whether you fly the 'old' Boeing 747 or the new 777. I prefer the 747.
Booking from Thailand is sometimes extremely expensive at EVA. From AMS, an Evergreen ticket costs around 900 euros. From BKK, the same chair then suddenly costs 1200 euros return. Paying via the EVA website with your Dutch credit card can also be expensive. The price in THB is then first converted to USD and then back to Euro.
And last but not least: EVA nowadays also has a hand in canceling flights for 'technical' reasons. Because this airline does not fly daily, this can be very annoying for a holiday or business trip.

    • Ferdinand says up

At EVA (via travel agency in BKK) I noticed a few times that booking n TH was considerably cheaper than in NL.
But then BKK – AS – BKK, which of course will not apply to most people. Also noticed that a single trip from BKK is easy to book, and from Amsterdam only return flights.
1x flown with "new" 777, scary stuffy. 747 okay. However, the 777 would have already been used on other routes, so last time again with 747. It has been noticed that the service in the evergreen class is also decreasing, there is less walking around with drinks and snacks (you can always grab yourself) the bag with night things has been simplified etc. Most important remains the extra space

      • F. Franssen says up

This year I flew with KLM again…with the 777.
This machine has a low oxygen content so that no fewer than 4 passengers had to use oxygen!. According to the staff, this is due to Boeing due to cost savings on oxygen…really. \I am asthmatic so I was the first to go.
Scandalous. The staff would also like to see the 747 again.
Good experiences with Eva, although I found the rate this time (5 months ticket) very high

Flew with EVA Air once and indeed good. I also flew Evergreen deluxe at the time. I think you're in the front of the nose if I remember correctly. Screen in the seat in front of you, legroom is 38 centimeters (just looked it up), the seats are also wider than in Economy class. Good, eat, regular snacks and drink enough.

    A good price-quality ratio, I paid around € 800 for a ticket.

    • Steve says up

By the way, I also voted for Air Berlin because I paid around € 500 last time and the seats can be a bit tighter for that. Pills in it and I sleep, I wake up with breakfast.

      • B.Mussel says up

I'd leave that pill alone, it's not that good.
Due to instability of the body, you could get problems with your blood circulation, and this can even be reflected after 2 months.

        Medical tip

        • Frank says up

Sorry, but that's nonsense. A sleeping pill (what medicine) is very useful to suppress jet lag and bring the body to the necessary rest. BV Temazepam 10mg.
Also used by the flight crew AFTER the flight in the hotel.

It is a pity that Eva Air does not fly from Germany. The costs to drive to Amsterdam and back are too high and therefore Eva air is uninteresting to me. Germany also remains cheaper when it comes to the air tax to be paid. The difference is getting smaller, but the time savings are enormous. I am home from Germany. From Amsterdam I will be in the car for another 2 hours, with or without traffic jams. The only solution would be Germany Amsterdam-Thailand. I'll have to find out if that fits in somewhat, but I'm afraid that the waiting times will increase again and the costs too. In any case, never again Emirates with those terrible waiting times of 9 hours in Dubai (in the middle of the night). I don't understand why they don't do anything about it because I think they would attract a lot more passengers.

Fly with EVA because of the Evergreen. A bit more expensive, but we're fine. Even considering the flight time, this is fine for us. But as mentioned above: they cancel a flight quite easily. That is usually Thursday. Let's fly on Thursday in February. What I find annoying is that when you want a "free" upgrade from the Evergreen to the Business (at 25.000 miles) they suddenly have a full Business. It may be in a different period, but then I unfortunately work.

    • Ferdinand says up

Usually upgrade to the Business without any problems, but could be depending on the period. Incidentally, “business” (above) does not offer much more, space is little larger, service and meals are much better. But find space upstairs quickly too hot and sometimes stuffy, but that's probably personal.

Even had a "free" upgrade a few times because evergreen was full.

Last time very strange experience, standing in line at EVA check-in, in BKK, where staff were busy (because of 8 seats overbooking) to convince passengers to exchange their evergreen de luxe ticket for an economy class ticket from China Air, which has a left an hour earlier. Weirdest comment “we would then be on China's standby list, so no guarantee that we could really fly with China, and if it didn't work out, we would be among the first tomorrow. Whole story/request was also printed, and piece of paper was hung up at the check-in desk and handed to every evergreen passenger in line.
Strangest of all, they also found a few candidates, who hoped to save an hour of time.
So pay 300 euros more for evergreen class to fly with the competition economic? Does EVA Air have so little confidence in its own product?

    • B.Mussel says up

      upgrade.
I gave 35000 miles for that in February 2011, is that correct 25.000

      Your reply please.
      Thank you

Eva air is indeed a good company, it's just a pity that we can't book it every time to fly with Eva. It is always fully booked. Very sorry!!!

  6. Johnny says up

KLM seems better to me, unfortunately too expensive for me and it is EVA that wins me over as a customer. After countless EVA flights I am still very satisfied.

      Dear,
I speak as Belgian and have always departed from Brussels airport. Once with quanta flown from London to BKK, never again, in London too I had to wait more than 9 hours and then upon arrival in Brussels my luggage was not with me, answer, had no time in those 9 hours to transfer the luggage load. I always fly with Ethiad and never pay more than 850 euros. 6,5 hours flight from Brussels to Abhu dabhu, wait 2,5 hours there and then fly back 6,5 hours to BKK. Which I find very comfortable, wall now fly for 12 hours in one go, no thank you, my limbs are going crazy. The service is of excellent quality and you get everything you ask for, good food and red wine. Own screen and so on. I never sleep on a plane, after a few hours I'm walking and doing some exercises in the back of the plane. Have already flown 12 times with Ethiad and am extremely satisfied, the price is not expensive, you can even fly for around 550 euros, but you have to book in time, which of course is not always possible. I remain loyal to Ethiad.

Eva Air is already the best because of her good staff, enough legroom, also in the Y. The food is even very good. rate slightly more than the others, but if you still go to Thailand for 3 months, that should also be possible.

Bad experiences with KLM: meager legroom. A breakfast consisting of gray muck where the stewardess doesn't even know what's in it.
Burning seat lights but no flight attendant.
Complaints are not answered. Shame on national “”pride””

    Frank

  8. franky says up

    sorry for some writing errors
    bye

  9. Ferdinand says up

Eva air is also my favourite. Especially the space in the evergreen. Only often booked long in advance. 747 fine, 777 scary stuffy thing
China a close second. Used to be a favourite, but now often not bookable for months, full, and sometimes very strange pricing. One ride hundreds of euros more expensive than the other. No arrow to raise.

Our good old solid KLM has long since fallen off. Tight leg room, no extra class, incredibly bad service from grumpy flight attendants. To make matters worse, terrible carelessness on the inside of the device. Purser walking around with screwdriver to move chair backs. Sometimes moved up to 4 times during the flight because the seat was defective. A few times they end up on the spare seat at the very back, which is also used for cases of illness, or during a period even on the stewardess's seat, while another was placed on an emergency seat in the kitchen for a while. Addition of the purser, “I can imagine if you submit a complaint afterwards” but yes you are not waiting for a complaint and compensation, but for a safe and comfortable flight.

  10. Ferdinand says up

Never flown with Berlin Air. Looked several times on their internet page, did not come out. Sometimes no prices were indicated sometimes not even exact times.
Moreover, from the article here on the blog you understand that there is a lot of cheating with orice? Cheap there, expensive back. ?

  11. Tineke says up

    Hello
We have now been to Thailand 12 times and then flew with Eva and also with China A
I thought Eva was the best, but this year we are flying with Ver.Emirates for the first time
this saved us over 400 Euro. We do have a transfer of 3 hours, but for that
You can do a lot with 400 euros.
    Greetings

    • Egbert says up

The US ad is hopeful, but a transfer of 3 hours! I should not think about it….
With Lufthansa/Thai Airways to Bangkok, the transfer was or is 2 hours and that was not nice…..
Still, it is nice for some people to stretch their legs after a long intermediate flight, but I don't mind a transfer of at least an hour.

      • frameworks says up

@ Egbert. If you knew Dubai airport, you would know that waiting 3 hours shouldn't be a problem at all! Free internet and wifi, many restaurants, great for shopping, Irish pub etc. etc. I don't see the problem. I don't want to be on a plane for 11 or 12 hours. So emirates is the best solution for me with the bonus of the A380! Then you know what legroom and service is!

  12. kick&marian says up

Just a comment for which KLM is number ONE for us!!!!!!
We flew with all airlines two years ago when we were still mobile. Until a medical problem arose, namely the use of oxygen on board the aircraft. All companies, except one (KLM) had problems, one asked for 800 dollars extra with the other you had to reserve an extra seat until we called KLM, we were asked to contact KLM Care, we were promised that there were no extra costs for us, so we just had to book and then contact them again in connection with your reservation number. After booking two tickets, we called KLM Care again, a special seat was reserved for us with power supply under We were told that we could also take extra weight with us for free, namely an extra oxygen bar as a backup for calemitities, all of this will not cost us a cent more,
This SERVICE is the most important to us Not because it is completely free because it should have cost us quite a bit in the reasonable 20% but it is zero,,,,zero
WE HOPE WITH THIS MESSAGE THAT ALL PEOPLE WHO USE OXYGEN CAN DO SOMETHING WITH THIS!!!!!!!!!! HAVE FUN AND ENJOY IN THAILAND Kick& Marian

    • Ferdinand says up

That is certainly an advantage in such a case!
Incidentally we; noticed that the service at EVA and CHINA is also perfect for someone with a walker or wheelchair. No extra costs for taking it with you as extra baggage and at Schiphol as well as in BKK personal assistance in and out of the plane, through customs and porridge control to the outside of the person who collects. Fine

Fly with Etihad from Brussels for the first time next week. price round trip 550 euros. Apparently it was quick. Return journey 9 hours waiting time in Abu Dhabi. Back at the end of November. Then give you a report. First with Airbus A330-200 then with Boeing 777-300er.

    • franky says up

If you map it out well, the waiting is minimal, never having to wait more than 1,5 hours, is a welcome time to stretch your legs.

  14. menno says up

Air Berlin was a good experience for me two years ago. Good service, good staff and decent catering. The biggest advantage was that I could take XNUMX kilos of luggage with me on the return flight with a stay longer than a month. I had cycled through Northern Thailand and Laos. I was able to take the bicycle I had bought in BKK back to Dusseldorf Airport for a small surcharge of thirty euros for an unusually sized luggage.

Flying with Eva is just good 20 Jan we fly for the fifth time KLM is nothing and Berlin is nothing either

  16. Frank Franssen says up

Just arrived again with Eva Air. It was a pleasure again.
It is a pity that they will replace the 747 (becoming too old) with the 777 from March.
Someone already noticed: seems a bit cramped, fewer toilets.

A big advantage is of course that you fly from BKK in the afternoon at 12:00 and not
hanging out at the airport in BKK for hours at night.

    Enjoy them in Thailand !

I always fly with ETIHAD via Abu Dhabi, chosen as the 'best airline in the world' for the second consecutive year. They fly to Brussels and that is the most convenient for me.
Recently flew with KLM and never eaten so bad and dirty in my life. The culinary reputation of the Dutch is also good. They even had a 'promotion' for business class, a croquette!!! Not from the wall I assume.

    • franky says up

I can fully agree with you, Niek, I also always fly with Ethiad, the top for me. Other companies can't match it.

Just came back from Thailand on Saturday with China airlines, so never again. Outdated device, food was inedible, we were sitting near the kitchen, can you imagine what kind of air we were in ;-). Previously flown 2 times with Air Berlin, and I must say that was much better in every way. Nowadays it doesn't really matter much in terms of price from where you leave. Have a look at Egypt Air now. Does anyone have experience with that? They are dirt cheap!

    • lupardi says up

Flew with Egypt Air last week. Good service and leg room. A disadvantage is the transfer time of 4 hours at Cairo on the journey Bangkok – Amsterdam, but the price is so attractive that you just adjust to that and then it is not too bad.

      • Marion says up

I can also get through those 4 hours if it saves that much on the price. Thanks for your comment…

Been flying with EVA air for several years, since Garuda no longer flew to Western Europe. Perfect service and always right on time. At KLM you have to thank the flight attendants on your knees that you can come along at EVA air you are welcomed as a welcome guest. I always fly ELITE class and have been receiving a birthday congratulations from EVA air on my birthday for several years now. . What other club does something like that!! Too bad the 747 has been replaced by the 777. Much tighter. But the arrival and departure times are a big improvement.

    • Egbert says up

China Airlines & Qantas also congratulate you on your birthday and treat you to a glass of Champagne….. so don't react prematurely, people!

  20. l.good says up

My experience with EVA AIR is very bad.
I have never had such bad food in Elite Class in my many flights.
The food was lousy on both the outward flight and the return flight.
It was bad, and cold and NOT edible. This on an 11 hour flight!!
    Very unfortunate
With KLM, the food is even much better.

  21. B.Mussel says up

I have been flying with EVA AIR since 2004.
Feel safe, and is a great company with excellent staff.
    Fly yourself 3x p/year.
    Wouldn't want any other company.

Material is also perfect, now flying with Boeing 777-400.
    Try it too.

Have flown several times with Eva Air, service and friendly 10/10 (that cannot be said of China airlines: really unfriendly crew)
    greetings: georgessiam.

  23. Egbert says up

Flown 2 times with China Airlines business class; service excellent, friendly & correct.
    seats & legroom are perfect.
Also flew with Eva Air; the same luxury but less than CA in my opinion. Also with regard to the customer-friendliness of the staff; came across as businesslike to me…
Nevertheless, EVA AIR is also recommended.

  24. Bimo Kamil says up

Last year I went to Thailand with China Airlines. Was totally great!!! Good service, friendly cabin crew, and good food on board. In 1 word great!! Fly to Bangkok again next year with China Airlines.

  25. Waldo says up

I will never fly with EVA AIR again because I had to pay 365 euros for my golf bag on the outward flight to Thailand and 185 euros on the return flight!
First of all no good information on the internet about the cost of golf luggage and secondly why 2 different amounts ???

  26. Wendy says up

EVA air is the best in my opinion. I have (fortunately) not yet experienced all the problems that others describe.

I prefer to fly back with the combi premium return economy. This because of legroom, seat width, wide armrests, so no fight with your neighbor, the legs that can go up and the fact that you don't get such a dirty synthetic blanket but a real cotton one.
Arrive wonderfully rested and then continue your journey to your final destination.
The food is good enough in my opinion.

Also tried several other airlines in recent years, but EVA air is my favorite with China airlines in a good 2nd place.
