Etihad Airways, which regularly appears on the Thailand blog in connection with the very cheap 'Open Jaw tickets' to Bangkok, has placed an order with Boeing worth almost 20 billion euros at an aviation fair in Dubai.

Etihad wants to buy 25 Boeing 777s from Boeing and 30 aircraft of the 787-10 type, the latest Dreamliner. A stroke of luck for Boeing because the Dreamliner has been struggling with many problems since its introduction.

Etihad Airways is the flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates with Abu Dhabi as its hub. The airline is wholly owned by the government of Abu Dhabi and was established in 2003. Etihad Airways has received the award for the best airline in the world on a number of occasions (2009, 2010 and 2011).

Airbus

Emirates, another airline from the Emirates based in Dubai, will almost certainly buy 50 A380 aircraft from the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus. The Airbus A380 is the largest passenger aircraft in the world. The widebody aircraft has two floors and can accommodate up to 853 passengers. With an average configuration, 555 people fit.

Competitor Etihad also wants to go shopping at Airbus. They will probably buy 75 A350 aircraft there.

Qualitatively both are good airlines, but to my knowledge neither Etihad nor Emirates are “national” airlines of the UAE. One belongs to (the ruling family of) Abu Dhabi and the other to (the ruling family of) Dubai.

Ethiad and also Emerates are the best airlines in my opinion. Friendly service and good meals and with normal cutlery. I also think it's a plus that after being on the plane for 6 hours you can spend a few hours on the ground.
