Just a little while and the validity of my girlfriend's tourist visa has expired. That means she will (should) go back to Thailand.

However, before she flies back to Thailand, I had to change her ticket. Because I had made a mistake.

90 days

Shortly after arriving in the Netherlands, we made an appointment with the Aliens Police in Apeldoorn, which is mandatory. The very friendly agent (may also be said) pointed out to me that I had made a mistake when booking the ticket. I had assumed three calendar months, but three months is not necessarily 90 days. Stupid of course, but good.

According to the current data on the ticket, my girlfriend would leave a day late. The total stay would then amount to 91 days. However, the maximum length of stay on a Schengen visa is 90 days. The agent said that she may then receive an entry in the VIS (Visa Information System). Such a note can have unpleasant consequences for a subsequent visa application.

Adjust flight ticket

Because of course I don't feel like it, I was forced to change the return date of the plane ticket. I was disappointed because I knew that some airlines charge (considerable) costs for this, ranging from € 50 to as much as € 250. The costs for adjusting your ticket, such as the date, differ per airline and are listed in the conditions.

Have you booked a flight ticket with a so-called 'broker' such as World Ticket Center, Flight tickets.nl or Cheaptickets.nl then they also print change costs on top. See here the text on the website of Cheaptickets: “In addition to the airline change costs, we charge € 45 administration costs per person, per change.” In short, changing an airline ticket can be expensive. In the worst case, it will cost you almost 300 euros per ticket. Yes, some airlines will not fail if they can screw you out.

EVA Air

But it can also be different. I called EVA Airways in Amsterdam and the ticket was immediately rebooked so that my girlfriend can fly back within the 90-day period. It was arranged in a minute and I just received a confirmation by e-mail. The costs for this? Nothing. Completely free!

A neat and tidy service from this airline and therefore hereby: my compliments to EVA Air!

It's nice that you don't have to pay change costs, but it's a pity that your girlfriend has to leave a day earlier than you thought. Come quickly to Thailand.

    Khan Peter,
In addition to being lucky that you didn't have to pay anything, you were also very lucky that on that day
a place was available. In the month of July, Eva-air is usually full to the brim.

I know from experience that the EVA-Air office in Amsterdam is extremely attentive and customer-friendly.
If you have a good reason for changing the ticket, they will help you for free. On the other hand, EVA Air itself often changes a departure or return date.

Same thing happened to me 9 years ago. The police officer made a note on the ticket that must be handed in at Schiphol that her ticket was booked on date x (two days after the 90-day visa expired). Never had any problems.
I also thought three months is three months, but not so

The 1st time my girlfriend was here, China Airlines delayed the return flight by a day. I then called the aliens police, asking what to do.
She told me that we didn't have to do anything extra.

So my girlfriend returned to Thailand a day later and 90 days later she was back, never had a problem with it. Later applied for the MVV and got married in the Netherlands almost a year ago. All this without any problems.

    Hallo,

I am now flying back for the second time with Eva Air from A´dam to Bangkok.
Now I have an open return for the return flight, but of course it does not guarantee that you can fly on the date you would like to return. But I must say that a telephone contact with Eva A'dam, followed by a few e-mails and a final telephone communication from their office, ultimately gives a satisfactory result.
No complain! The same thing happened when I was forced to re-book due to the occupation of the airport a few years ago. Also good service from the Eva Air branch in Bangkok. That softened the waiting time of ten days, even if it was in my own house. Of course it was planned differently.

On the date back when you would like to fly, I would still inform BKK a day or 2 in advance, because you do not go back with an open return when you want to if you want and that is the same with China. What do you pay extra because these are not written out in Belgium, they do not exist at every travel agency or you pay a 6 month valid ticket or not. EVA-AIR doesn't even issue tickets for the same year for China, I've experienced it several times but only need it for urgent matters. If you have a valid ticket of 6 months you can always go back before the end date, but with contact also after that, but not a month and the first change is usually????? grartis if you have a good customer or a flyers card.

Did this for my girlfriend too. Class V tickets can always be rebooked free of charge. I wonder if they also do it for free with tickets of another class.

    Hallo,
I didn't mean it that way if you seem to understand it.
My outward flight was BKK to Schiphol. I always book directly through
the website of Eva Air. So this time with an open return; you can use this option
simple tick. But the validity is max. 3 months.
Was no problem for me because I (now in Spain), still inside
wanted to go back because of the renewal of our annual visa in September.
Now just go from Girona to A'dam a little earlier, and 3 hours later with it
aircraft from Eva Air to BKK.
