Questioner: Renate

I am working on a visa application for my father. He goes to Thailand for 175 days. Normally 1x across the border to Cambodia or Laos to extend his visa. Now I have checked the non-immigrant OA visa. Is that the right visa?

A certificate of good conduct is also requested. He is 87 years old. Doesn't seem applicable to me?

His insurance policy with more than 100.000 usd has been downloaded. All other requested give as far as I understand. Can someone tell me what else is being asked?

  • Showing no prohibitive diseases as indicated in the ministerial regulation no.14? Is that a health care statement or vaccination certificate?
  • foreign insurance certificate?

He leaves October 8. Who can provide me with more information?

If your father is physically in good shape to make a border run, you can apply for a Non-immigrant O Multiple entry. The requirements are much less than a Non-immigrant OA

You can find that visa here: https://hague.thaiembassy.org/th/publicservice/e-visa-categories-fee-and-required-documents

CATEGORY 1 : Tourism and recreation related visit

.....

  1. Longer stay for retired persons (pensioner aged 50 or above)

VISA TYPE: Non-immigrant O (retirement) Visa (90 days stay)

FAIRY:

EUR 70 for single entry (3 months validity)

EUR 175 for multiple entry (1 year validity with maximum stay of 90 days per 1 entry)

Upon entry, he will thus obtain a residence period of 90 days. Then he has to make a “border run” and upon his return he will receive another 90 days.

But you can also opt for a Non-immigrant OA. Considering its age, it might still be worth considering. There are more requirements, but the advantage is that upon arrival he will immediately receive a residence period of one year. That means that he does not have to make a “border run” after 90 days and can remain calm in Thailand the entire period, even longer than those 175 days if he wants to. Even up to a year.

You can find that visa on the same link but at the very bottom: https://hague.thaiembassy.org/th/publicservice/e-visa-categories-fee-and-required-documents

CATEGORY 7: Long Stay for persons over 50 years

  1. Long Stay (OA)

VISA TYPE: Non-immigrant OA Visa (1 year stay or less in accordance with the validity of the visa)

FEE: EUR 175 for single entry (1 year validity)

– He must also submit a statement of good conduct. This also applies to 87-year-olds

– You can find the health declaration by clicking on the link in the document or here

- It Foreign insurance certificate can be found here

You now have to weigh up what is best. A Non-immigrant OA or a Non-immigrant O. Both can be Retired. Each have their pros and cons.
