Questioner: Gaston Dierickx

We are retired, fully vaccinated and over 50. We hold plane tickets to Brussels/Bangkok October 30, 2022 and Bangkok/Brussels April 16, 2023. Our passports are valid until August 29, 2024. We want to apply for an OA multi-entry visa . Before coming to our question, a few passages that seem quite confusing to us.

From Thailand's website:

Vaccinated travelers must have the following documents with them to enter Thailand:

– A valid passport (must be valid for 6 months upon departure from Thailand)

The website of the Thai embassy in Brussels states:

– Holders of a Belgian passport who want to visit Thailand for tourist purposes can enter Thailand without a visa and stay up to 30 days per entry provided they are in possession of inbound and outbound airline tickets and a passport valid for at least 6 month.

Note: It does not state here that it must be valid for another 6 months upon departure from Thailand.

On the site of the Thai embassy in Brussels under point 1 for applying for a visa for non-immigration OA multi entry:

-1 Page with personal details of passport or travel document Passport that is still valid for 18 months

Question:

– Is this 18 months when you leave Thailand?

– Is this 18 months when applying for the visa?

– Is this 18 months on arrival in Thailand

It is important for us to obtain the correct information about this.

Thanks in advance.

For a Non-immigrant OA visa, your passport must be valid for at least 18 months on the day of your visa application.

A passport does not have to be valid for another 6 months upon departure from Thailand. That is not correct. Thailand does not require that. Not for any visa and not for a Visa Exemption.

It is currently impossible to predict what additional requirements may be to enter Thailand in October. By that I mean requirements that in themselves have nothing to do with your visa, but that apply to anyone who wishes to enter Thailand. That will depend on what the situation is around Corona, Monkeypox, vaccination or whatever. You'll have to keep an eye on yourself.
