In January I booked tickets for my 2 kids and wife through Finnair: June 26 Brussels – Bangkok and October 16 back. While organizing the trip I came across a few questions. I had already emailed the Thai embassy, but I think it's best to visit them physically to arrange the visa.

The trip will last 113 days in total. Which visa should I apply for, when is the best time to apply and what is the cost?

I think it is best to take a Tourist visa Single entry in combination with a Visa Exemption in addition to bridge the period of 113 days. With that visa you will have 60 days upon entry and you can extend it once by 30 days. A total of 90 days, which of course does not bridge 113 days. You will have to leave Thailand. With a new entry on Visa Exemption you will then be able to obtain a 30-day stay, which you can also extend once by 30 days.

It is up to you to calculate when you will leave Thailand now, but the longest period without interruption in Thailand will be 90 days. For example, you could also leave Thailand after 60 days, and come back on Visa Exemption and then extend those 30 days by 30 days. Is then about the middle of your periods.

Keep in mind that the land borders are still closed for European tourists and if that is still the case then it will be flying to leave Thailand. And of course also take into account any visa requirements or Corona measures of the country you want to fly to

Also keep in mind that if you leave Thailand you will also have to meet the applicable Corona requirements, such as a Thailand Pass to re-enter Thailand. But maybe you're lucky and the borders over land will be open again and there will no longer be any Corona conditions to enter Thailand.

You must apply for a visa online and not at the embassy. You can find the visa you need and the conditions here.

Tourist visa – Royal Thai Embassy Brussels

“Single Entry Tourist Visa, valid for a 3 months period, for a stay up to 60 days per entry (with the possibility to extend for another 30 days at on of the Immigration offices in Thailand)”

Costs 40 Euro per visa

Revised Fees for Consular Services effective on 1 July 2019 – Royal Thai Embassy Brussels

I assume that you are Belgian because you say you fly from Brussels, but if not, here is what is required in The Hague. And Tourist visa there only costs 35 Euro….
