Subject: Year extension and 90 days notice

My year extension expires on January 27, 2020. Now I applied for my renewal at the immigration office last week and on February 7 I have to report again for this and then I should receive a new stamp for a year.

Looking at my penultimate 90-day report, I should actually make my next 29-day report on January 2020, 90. But has this been canceled completely and will it only apply again 90 days after February 7?

You should see a year extension and a 90-day notification separately. Only when you apply for a year extension for the first time will this also be regarded as a 90-day notification.

“The first application for extension of stay by the foreigner is equivalent to the notification of staying in the Kingdom over 90 days.”

With subsequent annual renewals, the 90-day count continues, without taking into account your annual extension. Only when you leave Thailand does the 90-day count stop. She then starts counting again from 1 upon her return entry. What sometimes happens is that with a new year extension immigration also resets your 90 day count to 0. When issuing your annual extension, they will also issue a new notification slip with a new reference date on which the notification must be made. But that's a local decision. If you receive such a new piece of paper on February 7, it will of course count towards the next notification.

90 days notification must be made for an uninterrupted stay in Thailand. In your case, the 90th day of uninterrupted stay, after the previous report, is January 29, 2020. You will then have to report the 90 days taking into account that day as a reference. It doesn't matter that you have to be back on February 7 to pick up your annual extension.

What you can do, of course, is ask when making the 90-day notification whether your annual extension is also ready. You may get it earlier. Perhaps that is why you should contact them in advance and tell them when you will report the 90 days and you will immediately receive the annual extension. This way everything is arranged in one go. It is best not to make that 90-day notification too early. The later you make the notification in the period within which it is possible, the more chance you have that your annual extension will also be ready by then.

Reminder. As you know, the notification can be made 15 days before to 7 days after that reference day if you are going to make the notification at immigration yourself.

“The notification must be made within 15 days before or after 7 days the period of 90 days expires.”

On-line, a period of 15 days before to 7 days before the reference date applies.

“Applicants can submit this online application within 15 days but not less than 7 days before the due date of notification”

As for your renewal.

I see that an “under consideration” stamp is used and you have to pick up the annual renewal on February 7th. However, that does not mean that your new year extension will run from February 7. If they do their job well, it will tie in with the end of the previous extension that ends on January 27.

Success.
