Dear editors,

I am 65. I want to live in Thailand. I receive € 1060,00 AOW. I get a lot of well-intentioned advice from a lot of people, but I don't know what's the best yet.

Do I have to apply for a retirement visa and how long is it valid? If not, what kind of visa do you recommend and do I have to go abroad for an extension?

I have some savings.

I would love to hear from you.

Regards,

Marcel

The Best marcel,

For a “Retirement visa” you must be at least 50 years old. Financially, an amount of 800 Baht is requested on a Thai bank account (there must be at least 000 months for the first time with the application, and 2 months for subsequent applications),
or a monthly income of 65 Baht, or a combination of income and a bank balance for a total of 000 Baht.

A “Retirement visa” is actually a one-year extension of a previously obtained period of stay (or previous extension). You obtain this period of residence by applying for a first and “Non-immigrant “O” Single at an embassy/consulate. Costs 60 Euros. Upon arrival you will then receive a stay of 90 days. You can then extend those 90 days for a year on the basis of “Retirement”. That is why this extension is also called a “Retirement visa”.

With a “Retirement visa” you can stay in Thailand for an uninterrupted year. Just make a 90 day address report at immigration. After a year you can then extend for another year as long as you continue to meet the condition of the extension

More details about what you need to prove to apply for this can be found in the Dossier Visa Thailand on the blog. www.thailandblog.nl/wp-content/uploads/TB-2014-12-27-Dossier-Visa-Thailand-full version.pdf
