Dear Ronnie,
I have a “non-immigrant Retirement visa” valid until 28/05/2020. On this date I need to extend the visa for 1 year. But what happens if I am late in extending the visa?
How many days is it possible to extend too late and what is the fine you will receive? (Reason is that it almost went wrong last year and now I still have this question).
Yours faithfully,
Sjaak
Dear Jack,
1. A Non-immigrant “Retirement” visa does not exist. You have obtained an annual extension of a period of stay with a Non-immigrant visa.
If you are talking about a Non-immigrant “O” visa then it is simple. Can't extend. You just have to apply for another one before you come to Thailand.
2. If you are too late, your annual extension will expire on its end date and you will officially no longer be able to extend it. Only if the end date falls on a day on which immigration is officially closed (WE, public holiday) can you still submit the application on the next working day. In that case, they will still accept your application and without penalty. Please note. Only the next working day is eligible for this.
There are immigration offices that sometimes accept a few days too late and then charge an “Overstay” fine of 500 Baht per day. Those days you are also illegal in Thailand. But actually this is not according to the rules. So don't count on it being accepted everywhere.
3. Just make sure you apply for your next annual renewal in time. This is possible at least 30 days before the end date. Why wait for it to expire?
4. If you are not in the country on 28/05/2020, you will no longer be able to enter on the basis of your “Re-entry”, because the date has passed and you can completely forget about the extension. Your annual extension will have expired anyway
The only way is to start over with a non-immigrant “O” visa.
Regards,
