Questioner: Freddy

Annual Visa Non-Immigrant O Retiremant Jomtien. When I applied for the annual visa in 2020 and 2021, I received a notice to present myself within 90 days for “90 days bank checking” to see if the 800.000 thb were still in my bank account.

Now, in October 2022, I was no longer asked this. When I asked whether I no longer had to present myself within 90 days for the “90 days bank checking”, the officer told me that everything was fine.

Has this scheme been abolished?

To inform everyone about the reason for your question, the financial requirements of a year extension for Retired can be proven, among other things, with a bank amount of at least 800 000 Baht. There are conditions attached to that.

For example, the amount must be on it at least 2 months (note that some requirements still require 3 months) before the application and the amount of 800 Baht must remain on it until 000 months after the extension has been granted. Afterwards you may possibly drop to 3 Baht. One must therefore check whether such a thing happens of course. However, nowhere is it prescribed how this should be done and so every immigration office has a free choice. The two most commonly used are that the foreigner is allowed to come back after 400 months with a proof, or that it is checked with the next application for an extension.

Whether that control has now been abolished? I don't think so. I have not yet read anywhere that this would be the case, but if one of the readers would have read it, they can of course always let us know.

I had also understood from previous reports that and as you also write, Jomtien had chosen to have the foreigners come back after 3 months with proof that they had not been under the 800 Baht.

However, I suspect that they have come to the conclusion that this may have created additional congestion and strain in the Immigration Office and may have moved on to checking at the next annual renewal. As many immigration offices do.

It is quite possible that this may have consequences for the supporting documents that you must provide with the next application. Perhaps until now it was enough that you only had to prove that the amount of 800 Baht was on it for 000 or 2 months, but that they now also demand a complete overview of a year, so that they can also check the first 3 months.

Perhaps you should inquire whether that is the case, or perhaps there are readers who have recently received information about this from immigration Jomtien.

Last week I did my annual extension in Jomtien and I received a letter that the thb 800.000 must remain in my account for at least 3 months. After 3 months (and its verification) the amount may be reduced to THB 400.000.

Last year I also had to come back after three months. Maybe they thought it was strange that I had the money in another account now. I asked what to do if I was not in Thailand after three months on that date. He said never mind, but come soon after you get back to Thailand. I asked: does this have to be done every time? Answer: no. I think they test it through spot checks or if they suspect something strange.

Well, Freddy, watch out for that...
I myself had the same annual visa in Jomtien on October 16, extended for 1 year..
After approval of all copies and payment of 1900 Thb, I was allowed to sign an A4 form and take it with me.
This concerned the assignment to come back on January 16 with copies updated passbook etc.
If you didn't have that form, I would still go back, because that obligation will still be there...

Yes, even if you don't come, they're not going to throw you out of Thailand or give you a fine because you haven't reported after 3 months. As long as it can be demonstrated afterwards that you meet the requirements. Or if you decide that you are not going to do a subsequent annual extension, you can easily withdraw your money from the account because you already have the stamp of the annual extension in your passport. Don't look so gloomy if you don't report. It was not necessary to visit Korat after 3 months, only to show a bank statement for the past year at the annual renewal so that things can be checked.

I received a retirement O visa on March 14, 2022 at the immigration office in Huahin. The officer told me that I could complete the 3 months report in Dansingkon (border crossing to Myanmar). I'm staying in Bang Saphan so that's closer. I then traveled back to the Netherlands on April 15. Of course, when leaving Thailand at Suvarnabumi, I had to record a statement that I could not comply with the 3-month notification due to no presence in Thailand.
Now on Wednesday, October 26, I entered Thailand again on my retirement visa and I will leave again on March 31, 2023. The immigration officer at Suvarnabumi stamped it to March 10, 2023 with a separate date stamp. When I asked if I shouldn't have to report for 90 days (before Jan 16, 2023), he said: 'not nessesary, sir'.
So on March 10, 2023 I will extend my retirement visa at the immigration office in Huahin with the requested documents.

I think you are talking about something completely different, namely a 90 day address notification.
That has nothing to do with the topic here.

And what you get with it…..

“Obviously, when leaving Thailand at Suvarnabumi, have a statement recorded that I could not comply with the 3-month notification due to no presence in Thailand.”
What's the point? You still have a Departure stamp and people can see that you have left Thailand. You shouldn't have that recorded anywhere and they won't have.
By the way, when you leave Thailand, the count of your 90-day address report automatically expires.

“When I asked if I shouldn't have to make a 90-day report (before Jan 16, 2023), he said: 'not nessesary, sir'.”
Of course not. Why should you make a 16-day report before January 90? Where do you get that date from?
If you entered October 26, that 90-day notification starts again from 1.
The next notification date is then 90 days after arrival. That will be sometime January 24th.

“So I am going to extend my retirement visa on March 10, 2023 at the immigration office in Huahin with the requested documents.”
If your annual extension runs until March 10, it is best to do so before March 10 and not around March 10.
You can apply 30 days before March 10. You won't lose anything because that year extension always connects to your previous one, whenever you request it.
