Thailand Visa Question No. 127/23: How long is my annual renewal if my passport expiry date is less than one year?
Questioner: Rolly
My residence permit visa O expires March 10, 23 and my international passport expires September 10, 23.
Will I get a residence permit until September 10, 23 and can I extend my international passport in the meantime and then adjust my residence permit to one year?

I think your period of stay has already expired if it ran until March 10, 23 … .. You will still have to review your data.
But in summary, you can only obtain an extension until the expiry date of your passport. Even if you ask for a year extension, you will only get the months/weeks until the expiry date of your passport. You cannot recover the rest of that year extension later with a new passport.
If you have a new passport, you can have the expiry date and some other data transferred from the old one to the new one. Apply for a normal annual extension again with your new passport by the end date of your stay.
What you can also do is to make sure that you already have a new passport before you apply for a new year extension. You then apply for a normal new year extension with both passports. The end date of your old annual extension and some other data will first be transferred to the new passport and then a full annual extension will be placed in the new passport.
