Thailand visa question 45/23: My visa period has expired, but I cannot leave due to illness
Questioner: Jack
At the moment I am with my girlfriend in Pattaya. I have been having health problems for a few weeks now. I am now being examined at Memoriam Hospital. I would leave for the Netherlands on February 25 and my visa will expire on February 28.
I am not able to fly back to the Netherlands now, maybe not by then, how do I solve this?
Greetings,
Jaco

Is it your 'visa' that expires or is it your 'period of stay'? This is often played around with.
The best way to solve this is to request an extension of your 'duration of stay', even if your visa would expire, and this for 'medical reasons'. Do this BEFORE your visa (or period of stay) expires on February 28.
You will need a certificate from the hospital doctor stating that you are unable to travel. (you've never been able to fly)
With this, your girlfriend can go to immigration with the necessary documents such as your passport and doctor's certificate to apply for an extension. How long that extension will be allowed depends on the immigration officer and the severity of your condition.
