Questioner: Hank

Your situation
We are currently still on holiday in Thailand and will return to the Netherlands on April 26.

Prognosis
We expect to emigrate to Thailand in the second half of 2026. I am married to a Thai woman and we both currently still live in the Netherlands.

Current state of affairs
We have now found a rental home for my wife's daughter, who lives in Thailand.

The expectation is that we will also temporarily use this house as a starting point for our emigration in 2026. From that situation we want to take our time to look for a piece of land or a house to buy.

Contact
My question concerns the lease for my wife's daughter's home. The plan is to put this contract in my wife's name. Given my intended application for a visa-O in 2026 and the subsequent annual extension, I wonder whether it is wise(er) to put the lease in my name.

Thanks in advance for thinking along.

In itself, it doesn't really matter whose name is on the rental contract.

I think the easiest is in your wife's name and that she immediately puts her address there. Just go to the municipality. Then she can also get a blue Tabien Baan from there and she becomes the address manager.

When necessary, she can prove everything with her Tabien Baan. Also with TM30, visa application or extension of your stay.

If you put it in your name or your wife does not have Tabien Baan from that address (which happens more often), it may happen that not only the rental contract is requested, but also the ID and proof of ownership of the owner.

And whether he wants to cooperate immediately...? Maybe he doesn't live in the area at all, which could complicate things.
