The smartphone application Uber is a way to book a taxi quickly and safely. Uber launched in San Francisco in 2010 and is now available in 128 cities in 37 different countries. Uber is also a great success in Bangkok. The introduction in the Thai capital is so successful that Uber is growing faster here than anywhere else in the world.

How does Uber work?
You can download the app from the App Store or Google Play Store. Then you register yourself. When you search for a taxi, you will see all available Uber taxis in Bangkok driving on a map. You can then call the taxi you want. You can already enter your final destination in the app, after which Uber will give you a price indication. That way you always know where you stand.
Why is Uber so popular?
It is user-friendly and affordable. You do business directly with a taxi driver; a taxi center is not involved. You no longer have to pay for your taxi in cash, this is done via your credit card that you link to your account. The tip is always included in the fare. You can rate your Thai driver after the ride. So if your driver takes a very long time to drive and he or she did not take the fastest route, you can lose that. The same goes for rude behavior. As a result, you can also choose which driver you want to pick you up for your next ride.

Anyone have experience with Uber in Thailand?
Just for a short local ride it's not really necessary but I would use it if it allows me to order a good, not too expensive taxi between BKK and PTY or HH.
