With Thai FX Rates you can easily and 'real-time' enter the exchange rates of seven commercial banks Thailand to compare.

The exchange rates of the banks in Thailand differ from each other. If you want to exchange a lot of foreign currency or transfer euros to Thailand, it is useful to know where you can get the best exchange rate.

There are several large banks in Thailand where you can exchange money, including:

  • Bangkok bank
  • Kasicorn Bank
  • TMB Bank
  • Krung Thai Bank
  • Siam Commercial Bank (SCB)
  • Bank of Ayudhya
  • Siam City Bank
  • Thanachart Bank
  • United Overseas Bank
  • Super rich
  • Siam Exchange

It is time consuming to check the exchange rates separately at all these banks. There is a handy free app for this. I installed it on my iPhone and it works fine.

Just to put it to the test, I compared the 'Buying Rate' (euro – baht) of the banks. Here are the results of the seven banks that are displayed via the app (price of June 14, at 22.00 p.m.):

  • Bangkok Bank: 43,36
  • Kasicorn Bank: 43,40
  • Siam Commercial Bank (SCB): 43,82
  • Bench of Ayudhya: 43,37
  • Thanachart Bank: 43,35
  • United Overseas Bank: 43,47
  • Super Rich: 43,60
  • Siam Exchange: 43,80

As you can see, there are indeed differences and it appears that the Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) offers the best rate. Unfortunately, the app is missing a few banks such as TMB Bank.

The app is called 'Thai FX Ratesand can be downloaded for free from the App Store. Another useful exchange rate app is 'XE Currencythis one is also free.

Peter , why compare the “selling” rate , that is if you are going to exchange your leftover baht for Euro.

To change from Euro to Baht you use the “buying” rate, and we use that the most.

The selling rate is not euro – baht, but baht – euro

This mistake is made by many when they go to exchange, the Thai bank buys euros from us and then it is the buying rate.

The scb bank, unlike other Thai banks, has it exactly the other way around in their "row" …….

    • @ you're right René, I've corrected it.

      • Marco says up

@ khun peter. i don't get it. in the article the exchange rate of the scb is at 43,82. but on the thailand blog it is at the bottom left at 43,12!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am almost certain that the rate is the right one, given what you get when you exchange at the scb. Do you know why this difference?????

        • @ Good read Marco, the quoted rate was from yesterday and rates change regularly.

    • Khan Kees says up

      Dear Peter,

      with respect to this excellent website I respond to this particular topic;

I do not know how the “app” compares and what values it uses, but I have compared specifically on the websites of scb and bangkok bank at that time, adding “notes” (exchanging euros in baths at the counter) resp. 43,3573 and 43,36 out, so practically equal.
Note that comparing is be careful anyway given the "rounds" scb had 6 that day, and bkk 2, so you also have to pay attention to the time to compare honestly.

I have not looked at the other banks, but it seems that the differences are smaller than according to the "app". also a reader's story of lower exchange rates at the airport is not true in my experience.

Other observation; Unfortunately, exchanging cash at the bank counters is still the cheapest, or certainly at exchange offices such as in Saphankwai, debit cards are now more expensive than exchanging due to the costs/surcharges, especially for small amounts.

      Khan Kees

      • @ The app 'pulls' the info from the banks' websites. Today I received the message "connection lost" a number of times, which can be due to the app, but also to the website. So not quite right. I think the difference is also wrong. But it is also more about the possibility than the prices, that is a snapshot after all.

  2. ReneThai says up

    Okay, mai pen rai

By the way, never change cash at Bangkok Airport , that rate is always lower than in the city, and it seems that the TMB has a monopoly at the airport .

Perhaps that is the reason that TMB is not on the app, so their rate is very dependent on the location where you change.

    • @TMB always gives a bad rate. VAT, is owned for 30% by ING

    • andrew says up

the “M” of TMB has the entire airfield under control: everything.

This is also a nice site to look at the rates.

  4. andrew says up

according to my experience it can be interesting to exchange cash at money changers that are not tied to any bank.Eg VASU sukhumvit near ambassador hotel,SIAM EXCHANGE thanon phiathay near mbk or CHARLIE at pathunamYou will get more than the best bank rate (otherwise they have no right to exist) and you can negotiate and play them off against each other. The larger the amount, the more interesting, the greater the difference is. Large denominations, not notes of 20/50 or 100 euros. learn the language.
Banks here pfff. (lately also dare to ask 150bht per transaction at ATM first a few banks now I think all)

    • @ Might be interesting for expats. Not for tourists. They don't walk the streets with large sums of money. Also better not.

      • andrew says up

I know a couple of construction workers who come here every year for 3 weeks and each time have over 10K cash on them because they are building a house. And what about the guys who are in the trade, buying lots of clothes on Bobe etc.And there are so many…..

      • Hans G says up

How do you get euros as an expat?
Will you have to go to the Netherlands first?
I think it's mostly tourists who exchange cash.
As an expat you are still dependent on the ATM.

    • Pim says up

At AEON you don't pay anything to use a debit card.

    • andrew says up

      sorry “charlie” should be JIMMY”.

  5. lupardi says up

True with AEON there are no transaction costs and the gray machines are in many shopping centers such as MBK on the 2nd floor part C. I have also seen them in Central Bagna, shopping mall Bang Kapi and other shopping centers.

  6. Marco says up

I'm sorry, but those rates are absolutely wrong in practice. I've been here on vacation for 9 months now and often, very often exchanged or debited. I have an account with scb myself, but it is listed here as the best rate. Absolutely untrue In practice, they are known as one of the worst rates! But I have already said that the rates you find on the internet are not the real rates, the so-called mid-market rates! And every bank gives its own interpretation to that. preferably with pins at uob in the tops, nowadays they have a brand new office for the 7 eleven 2nd road soi 7! They give a very good net exchange rate! Changed yesterday and was still walking, so think of that 2nd road, I also look at the exchange rates in Central Festival (are the banks nicely next to each other after all) I came to the following net rates: scb 43,05, kasikorn,43,15, and the uob 43,53! it should be clear where I pinned YESTERDAY! Those who are in the Netherlands now and have acquaintances here, just ask them to compare, it can save a lot of money in the long term.

    • andrew says up

That's useful information for pinners. Thanks.

    • Gerard says up

That is a VERY long term that saves "Terrible A Lot of Money" with that few rod difference. Then you have to exchange millions !!!

  7. Harold says up

Nice app! Too bad it's not (yet) available for Android 🙁

I myself have a bank account with Kasikorn Bank, so I always deposit a large amount in euros on my first day and then I can withdraw free of charge at the ATM 🙂

  8. GerG says up

THERE is only one that always gives the highest price and that is Super rich green.
I check it daily. Has already earned me more than 500 euros.
Unfortunately, super rich green is only found in Bangkok in a side street near Big C, which can be found opposite Central World.

  9. GerG says up

I forgot to mention the website:

    http://www.superrichthailand.com/editor/rate.html

  10. rich! says up

superrich - for those who dare to walk with some cash in their pocket and still be in BKk - always gives the best rates, but with MAREN and these:
only Mon-Fri during the day, the \thai bank hours, 10.00-17.00 They are open longer, also weekends, but then the exchange rate is lower!
AND-if you come with € or $$ banknotes-take the largest value-the rate for 100 os is slightly better than for 50-and it's better than for 10.
Because the poster of this piece took 22.00 p.m. at night, he was put on the wrong track.
Transfer money to your own (or your sweetheart's) Thai bank account for wire transfer. is another job - I have no experience with that.
SRich has 3-4 offices (just look out for those big orange boards) in the sois to the left of BigC to the WTYC=now Central World (yes, the one that's out by the red one).
Recently there are also branches in KhaoSarn road and on Sliom-between soi 2 and 4. VASU is just another name of SRich.
There is also another exchange SIAM right next to that typical round white Bkk Arts Centra to MBK. Same on marginally lesser rates.
TMB has no monopoly on the airprot, but all banks give exactly the same rate, which is somewhat lower than in the city. Compared to most other airports with their rip-off rates (including Schiphol), this difference is very small.
And furthermore, the same Thai bank (eg TMB=ING! or SCB etc.) can charge different rates at other offices - the rent and status of the place also count. Around Silom is mostly pretty bad (for baht buyers)

  11. Wessel says up

What about transfers to a Thai account. I have transferred 300 euros from a NL account (305 euros inc. transaction costs). On the Thai bill (SCB) I only see 11.585 baht. Doesn't that seem very little?

  12. Gerrit Jonker says up

    And now vice versa.

In a while I want to go to the Netherlands and then I need Euros.
Exchange a large amount in Bath and then take it with you in Euros.
Or can I transfer from the bank in Thailand to the Netherlands?

    We have information about this.
    Thank you in advance.
    Gerrit

    • GerG says up

      Dear Gerrit,
It is cheaper to exchange it here in Euros

Also the other way around, Super rich green is the best price giver. Check out the website I've attached for this. Be careful because you also have a super rich yellow. The offices are opposite each other on the same street in Bangkok.
But you can only take a maximum of 10.000 euros at a time and take proof from your bank to be sure, so that they can see at customs where the money comes from.

      • Gerrit says up

        Thanks for the info GerG

Now I know for Chiangmai that you get the best exchange rate at Sk money changer!!
The bureau de change is located in the Charoen prathed road, at nose length from the "Iron Bridge"
I myself have been going there for years, you will not find better rates anywhere in Cnx!
greetings: georgessiam, currently in Nong kai.

  14. Nok says up

The rates on the internet do not always match the rate at the counter.

  15. Sam Loi says up

Is there a bank in Pattaya where you can pin without them taking that damned 150 baht?

    • Marco says up

@ sam loi. yes, he is in the carrefour! my friend had found it via the internet and it worked perfectly! no costs! my bank in spain even took 1 euro extra commission per 1000 bht that i pinned! and there do business with you!

      • @ maybe it is useful to add from which bank? Or is there only 1 ATM in the Karrevoeder?

        • Marco says up

I will send a mail to that boy, but maybe googling will help too! That's how he found out. Come back to it when I have an answer.

          • Marco says up

well google a bit and you will get there: uob bank soi 13/3 and ayudhaya bank carrefour (yellow bank).

            • Sam Loi says up

              Thank you dude.

            • ReneThai says up

Marco, I found the same thing on google, but that is info from 2009, the beginning of the 150 baht scheme.
Not all ATMs were then quickly provided with new updates. Only the Aeon bank does not charge 150 baht, but gives a significantly lower rate, after all, it is not a bank but a kind of credit company.
I bring cash which still gives the best rate. If you absolutely want to pin , you pin the highest possible amount .

              • Marco says up

ok Rene, the one I found it on was recent. That uob is also only in soi 13/3. but I sent an email to my friend who pinned toy here at the end of April. !!!!!: We will find out which bank it is, after information from the internet it would be Ayudhaya. Those are the only 2 ATMs in all of Pattaya!

              • ReneThai says up

The UOB also charges 150 baht, but it is not important to me, it will not be the case that 1 ATM of the UOB in Pattaya does not charge 150 baht .... :D:D

                http://www.uob.co.th/announcement/bankfee/2011/Fee_18June2011_en.pdf

              • Marco says up

Well guys we're out! The information is wrong, but this one is!!!!! It's in the Carrefour and just walk straight ahead at the entrance towards the toilets and then it's the Aegon bank. Orange / purple machine and then is there another Aegon bank where it also applies and they have 2 ATMs there, at Tesco Lotus Pattaya North! It's our own Aegon, haha. Lol

              • Pim says up

Yesterday I received my statement from the AEON dated 14/6/11 .
Debited at 13.48 20.000 .- Thb without costs of 150.- Thb.
The exchange rate at the time of payment was 42.97.7 Thb per euro .
Maybe someone who has pinned at 1 other bank at the same time at that time can make 1 comparison.
So that we know for sure whether it is cheaper to pay with the AEON.

    • Marco says up

sorry need reading glasses the AEON bank! My apologies! In the Tesco Lotus Noord they are located at the very back on the ground floor

      • ReneThai says up

Marco, thanks for all the "clarity".
Debit cards with a foreign card at the Aeon are free, as has been reported many times before. But the rate there is much lower. So your information is not correct at all…
I contributed my share to this topic, good luck pinning

        • Sam Loi says up

Thanks to gentlemen. I always bring cash and of course my debit card, in case I need extra money. I'm in Thailand and I'm not a big spender here either. I have a hotel for only 550 baht per night and a breakfast only costs me 50 baht and the rest doesn't cost a turd either. So 1500 baht a day is more than enough for me.

          Shall I sum it up?

          hotel room 550 baht
          breakfast 50 baht
          fruits 30 baht
          soft drink 20 baht
          internet 50 baht
          lunch 50 baht
          siesta 00 baht
          ----
          750 baht

Up to and including the afternoon nap, an amount of 750 baht is sufficient for me. But then it comes. The afternoon and evening session can sometimes put quite a strain on a budget. Especially when you dive into a bar. I don't go into expensive tents. I have been in Thailand for about 15 years and have only been to a Go Go bar once. And you won't see me in a disco, even if I'm a little in love. That time is very far behind me. Am I a boring bat, maybe, but if you don't have much to do then you have no other choice.

So I have 750 baht in my pocket to spend the evening reasonably decently and in appropriate drunkenness. Seems more than enough to me.

  16. Peter Holland says up

    I have another problem

My bank ABN AMRO no longer has any counters where you can withdraw money due to a culture of austerity.
only 50 euro bills or even smaller come out of the flap tapper, I can no longer dispose of my money in 500 euro bills at all, they advise me at the bank to go to the GKW, well then you will faint if you see what they charge for exchanging it for larger denominations, now I have a bag full of 20 and 50 euro bills.
    This is really unbelievable!!

    • andrew says up

I know that problem. That the service at the banks in the Netherlands is declining. My accountant also says: they light 3x your baptismal certificate before you get 1 euro credit. And when I tell them that my wife has cut her debit card by mistake, mastercard should have been, she says ice-cold then she has to come herself. In Thailand she opens a current account in her name, she immediately receives a credit and they immediately make a debit card. The bank employee is very helpful. and the RABO could learn something from it. But most GWK offices were closed after the introduction of the euro, right? Or am I wrong? If you live close to the German border, you can easily exchange 500 notes there. They have enough.

      • Peter Holland says up

In my hometown there is a GKW at the train station, but they charge an exchange rate plus commission, so I am crazy if I have to pay an exchange rate for every euro.
So I don't mean exchanging euros for bath, but simply exchange small denominations of euros for larger denominations of euros, or did you sometimes think that was free!
Incidentally, exchange euro for bath at GKW, that will make your pants fall off completely.

Then an option is of course to simply transfer from your bank to your Thai account, but then there is no control over the exchange rate, banks are very smart about that.
With a "delay" you can quickly miss out on a 20000/30000 bath, which can also work to your advantage, but that chance is small, otherwise it is not the bank's concern (the state of the Netherlands) where I spend my hard-earned euros (big brother)

where are the good old days when you could just withdraw your own money from your bank??

And it only gets worse. Moreover , the banks are thinking about how they can milk the customer even more , and service Ho but ! No more branches, no more payment desks, charging money for every service, and you can't avoid it because making payments etc, etc, can only be done by bank. Yak!!

In Thailand, too, the eagerness of the European and American banks has not gone unnoticed and they happily participate (albeit on a smaller scale).

My idea is to hide an old sock somewhere, can't go bankrupt and you don't have to leave it for the interest.

        • Johanna says up

@Peterholland, and then hope that no fire breaks out.
Have you lost your sock too!

Or as in Belgium of the week. A woman had hidden 20 euros in savings in the stand of an ashtray. One of those things that you can place next to your chair.
But my daughter sold this stand for a few euros at a flea market.
          Money gone!

  17. King French says up

So if I understand correctly, then I have to go to Thailand with euros and put these euros in my Thai bank account then I have the best rate.!!!

If I go to the Head Office of the ABNAMRO bank in R,dam, I can simply withdraw money. so also notes of 500 or 1000 euros.

    • Jacks says up

      king french.
New 1000 euro note? (there isn't) lol.

  18. hans says up

many chinese gold shopkeepers also exchange euros for thb, with often quite favorable
exchange rate and no costs, but larger denominations
