Bangkok is an impressive city, sometimes even overwhelming. If you find it busy and chaotic in our capital, Amsterdam is a picturesque and cute village compared to Bangkok.

Bangkok is a metropolis of international allure

Whoever visits Bangkok for the first time has to get used to the many impressions he or she gains. You feel insignificant and small in a metropolis where an estimated 12 million or more people live. Just as an indication: Bangkok is approximately one and a half times the province of Utrecht in terms of area.

Plan your trips in Bangkok

There is so much to see and do in Bangkok that it is wise to plan this in advance and determine how you will get there (bus, taxi, metro, tuk-tuk, etc). I myself prefer the BTS Skytrain because it is fast, comfortable and safe. Although the route of the Skytrain covers a large part of the center of Bangkok, you will sometimes have to choose alternatives.

Bangkok from above

To get a special impression of the gigantic city of Bangkok, I can give you one more type to give. View Bangkok from above. Bangkok has a number of skyscrapers with spectacular views of the city. Do this both during the day and in the dark. The millions of lights then provide an almost unreal spectacle, as if you have ended up in a swarm of countless fireflies.

Also recommended is the late afternoon, just in time to witness the sun setting behind the Chao Praya. Believe me the images will be etched in your memory, Bangkok grabs you and never lets you go.

Five locations for spectacular views of Bangkok

1. Sky Bar State Tower
The Sky Bar is perhaps the most famous open-air bar in Bangkok. You will find the Sky Bar on the 63rd floor of the imposing State Tower, which also houses the luxurious lebua (with a small 'l') hotels is located (see video). This bar is also known from the movie Hangover 2. It is a prime location to have a drink and enjoy the fantastic view. It is also a place where you want to be seen. The visitors of the trendy Sky Bar are mostly rich, young and beautiful. The bar seems to 'hang' on the building, so if you are afraid of heights, it is better to find a spot on one of the many lounge sofas. There is a strict dress code, so no flip flops and/or shorts.

  • Address: 1055 Silom Road, Tel. +66 2624 9999
  • Opening hours: 18.00pm to 01.00am
  • Dress code: Smart Casual (dress shoes, long trousers and shirt or polo)

ThreeSixty Lounge at the Millennium Hilton (i viewfinder / Shutterstock.com)

2. ThreeSixty Lounge at the Millennium Hilton
This indoor bar across the Chao Phraya River is located on the 32nd floor of the chic Millennium Hilton. Live jazz music and mood lighting give Threesixty a relaxed and trendy atmosphere. Thanks to the excellent air conditioning, it is nice and cool and easy to keep out. Appropriate clothing here too.

  • Address: 123 Charoen Nakom Road, Tel. +66 2442 2000
  • Opening hours: 17.00pm to 01.00am
  • Dress code: Smart Casual

3. Vertigo Grill & Moon Bar
The rooftop terrace on the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree Hotel and Restaurant offers spectacular 360-degree views of Bangkok. A particularly comfortable place to sit back with a drink and enjoy all the beauty that comes to mind.

  • Address: 21/100 South Sathorn Road , Tel. +66 2679 1200
  • Opening hours: 18.00pm to 01.00am

4. Long Table
This restaurant and lounge bar is located in a fashionable building in Bangkok. It is fairly new and has a hip image with the locals. The name 'Long Table' has to do with a dining table of 23 meters (!) in the restaurant. You can relax in the open air under the starry sky with a glass of champagne. The beautiful ladies present on high hooks ensure that there is a lot to see both outside and inside.

  • Address: 48 Column Building, Sukhumvit Soi 16 , Tel. +66 2302 2557
  • Opening hours : 11.00am to 2.00am
  • Dress Code: Smart Casual
  • Website: Long Table

The Rooftop Bar (Stephane Bidouze / Shutterstock.com)

5. The Rooftop Bar
The Baiyoke Sky hotel rises far above the skyline of Bangkok with its 88 floors. This makes it the tallest building in Thailand, magnificent views from dizzying heights. Professional live bands provide nightly entertainment in the indoor Rooftop Bar, located on the 83rd floor.
The restaurant has a very extensive and affordable buffet, but the quality is mediocre. The Bayoke Sky Tower is a must on a first visit to Bangkok. Hence the many tourists.

  • Address: 222 Rajprarop Rd., Rajthevee, Bangkok 10400, Tel: +66 (0) 2 656 3000
  • Opening hours: 20.00 pm to 01.00 am
  • Dress Code: less strict (touristy)
  • Website: The Rooftop Bar

The above locations are, with the exception of Bayoke, intended for the upper class in Bangkok, the prices are accordingly. That is why it can be useful to take your credit card with you. Reservation is sometimes required. Check the website for information.
If you don't want to spend too much, but still want to experience it, you can also just order a drink.

The video below gives a good idea of the splendor of the lebua hotel and the Sky Bar in the State Tower.

Just got back from BKK, and been to the Skybar and Bayoke. Both have a beautiful view of the city. The Skybar is quite pricey for Thai standards, cocktails start from 470 baht and that is also excluding service charge. But you have to see it once, just have a drink or two and leave. Indeed appropriate clothing, long trousers and a neat shirt, people were refused downstairs who did not comply.

    AN IRISH COFFEE In BAYOKE.

Most people go to the "new Bayoke tower", but I go to the old Bayoke Tower., To the restaurant. I'm not exactly sure on which floor. Also there a great view with an outdoor terrace.
In the restaurant, behind the glass wall (from ceiling to floor) you have a great view (a bit scary at first)
We regularly go there for an IRISH COFFEE. Well that's a treat. Prepared at the table with great care and a little theater and beautifully presented on your table. TASTY and VERY AFFORDABLE. Recommended.

    • Long Johnny says up

Yes, the new and and the Bayoke are next to each other.

You have to have it 'polite'! The skyscrapers you see from the ground floor, you see from above and they look small!

Just over 309 m high, you can enjoy Bangkok and its surroundings from the revolving terrace. If you go towards evening, you can enjoy a 'day view' and a 'night view', all equally beautiful.

On the 74th floor you can enjoy the view and enjoy the buffet. I thought a 680 baht per person for panorama and food. Dirt cheap for the westerner! If you go for the panorama alone, you pay 300 baht!

A life band and table animation is included in the price! And like everywhere you have to have it from the drink.

      Highly recommended!

Too bad to list the 37th floor Scarlett Bar of the G-Hotel Bangkok
on the Silom Road is missing. Who has been there and to his account
really won't look at that much too expensive Skybar a bit further away
go to Le Bua. Tip: in the Scarlett bar you can buy the wine at retail prices!

  3. marijke says up

Indeed a beautiful view from the bayoke hotel in bangkok. I thought it was the 74 th floor. Already eaten there a few times but found it less the last time while it is quite pricey for Thai standards. But the view over bangkok is beautiful . You should definitely give it a try when you are there.

    • Christina says up

Yes, in a very short time 350 baht more expensive. Paid 650 baht at Christmas including soft drinks.
In June 1000 baht and no soft drink had to be paid separately.
I think that is a considerable increase and always a bumblebee for a taxi back to the hotel.

  4. Jan Nagelhout says up

    hello sander…

well, it is not too bad, for Thailand standards it is very expensive for a Westerner
Baiyoke Sky, I think still the highest in Bangkok, they have bovevin Buffet, reasonable food, you must just do it for the view
Price a few years back around 1000 bath,,, if you go after 8 o'clock, in my memory, it's half price.
Avoid the drink, just drink water, and everything remains very affordable, the profit must come from the drink…..

    • Christina says up

No, the buffet is cheaper and non-alcoholic drinks are free. The food from the buffet is very good and they also make a lot of things in front of you. Make sure to ask for a table by the window.
Fantastic view if you know the area you can now see it from a great height.

  5. Paul says up

Not so high (25 floors) but beautiful evening view from revolving restaurant with reasonable prices is The Grand China Princess hotel on/near Yaowarat in Chinatown Bangkok. http://www.grandchina.com/

  6. Elly says up

Maybe also fun to do; Chatrium Riverside Hotel.
From the 36th floor you have a beautiful view (both during the day and at night) over the river.
You can have a drink on the balcony and enjoy, but also delicious food in the (Chinese) restaurant, (also wide view) very culinary but not cheap.
Tip: Eat down by the river, extensive buffet and then go to floor 36 for a drink.
Especially on weekends it is worth it in the evening, people party on party boats and during holidays there are always fireworks.
Accessible: take the Skytrain to the river and every XNUMX minutes you can take the Chatrium boat to the hotel.
It is a 10 minute walk from Asiatique, the night market.
    Nice to combine.

  7. Eric says up

BaiyokeTower, beautiful, have been there three times, have also stayed in the lower lying hotel, But as already said here, I still think the buffet is an experience, but somewhat deteriorating in quality! Even if in our standards 20 -22 € is not too much, but we are still in Thailand! Still worth it though.

  8. ger hubbers says up

Been to the Bayoke Tower with buffet for the 4th time, now in May especially for my grandson.

We again enjoyed the very extensive buffet for E 17,50 including viewing platform.

I mainly went for the sashimi and my grandson had set his sights on the excellent steaks , á la

minute grilled. My wife is a bit more difficult but she also got her money's worth, plenty of choice.

Soft drinks are included , tap yourself for a while .

  9. Kees kadee says up

Yes, the Bayoke is great, I often eat there and go to the shops in the area and grab a terrace.

  10. Kevin Oil says up

The Vertigo Bar is a must, been there several times, recommended.
They are also customer friendly, if you arrive in slippers, you get a pair of socks!
LeBua, on the other hand, is definitely not…
Bayoke…, buffet quality is very mediocre, view from behind a kind of fence, plus loads of tourists.

  11. Fransamsterdam says up

Stayed for two nights in October 2014 at the Baiyoke Sky Hotel, on the 55th floor, room 5511, which is at the top of the 'golden triangle' that you can see in the photos. An 'extended conservatory' with floor to ceiling windows on three sides. Absolutely amazing for 4000 Baht per night.
What struck me at the time was that the exuberant lighting of the surrounding buildings is already largely switched off around 21.00 p.m. An extra reason to visit the sky bars at sunset.

  12. Paul Schiphol says up

Now 3 weeks ago visited "The Long Table" beautiful view, only significantly less high than the other locations mentioned with the restaurant and outdoor terrace on the 25th floor. (is about half the height of the building). Easy to reach; Sky Train stop Asoke. Quite pricey for Thai standards, with some drinks on the outdoor terrace and a more than excellent alá card, 5-course dinner inside, incl. a bottle of wine, for two people, paid € 165,00. For this we received from 19:00 to 24:00, not only excellent food, but also pleasant service.

  13. Fransamsterdam says up

Baiyoke Sky Hotel Room 5511 + view from that room.

  14. Sir Charles says up

You also have a beautiful view from the Ferris wheel 'Bangkok eye' in the Asiatique shopping center on the river. Nice to do.

  15. Ashwin says up

Been to the Octave rooftop bar on the 49th floor of the Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit soi 57 last December. From 17.00pm to 19.00pm Happy Hour buy 1 and get 1 free, 2 Mojito for 370 Baht. Lovely atmosphere with nice music and a beautiful view.

  16. JH says up

Centara Grand central world, Red Sky Bar. Right in the center………also quite nice.

  17. fernand says up

dear Rob You say G hotel at the silom road, do you mean the Pullman G hotel???

  18. Frank says up

    What is also recommended:

    SkyView 360 restaurant.
On the 25th floor of the Grand China Hotel in China Town.
Fantastic view, turns all the way around in 2 hours

The prices of the food are more than reasonable.
Watch out for booze -> exceptionally expensive

  19. John says up

Been to Baiyoke recently and yes, had the buffet. Had a Thai get the ticket and only paid 650 Baht instead of the 1000 for Falang. Who is not smart…

  20. Hub Ogg says up

I have been to the Lebua bar several times. A breathtaking view.
However, the quality of the drink is lousy. The beer is not drinkable. Previously, Peroni was served, an excellent beer, but nowadays?

  21. Lydia says up

Tip. Book the last night at Bayoke Sky. You have a very large room with a view. And unlimited to the rotating viewing tower. We went at different times, during the day and after dark.Enjoy the view. And an extensive breakfast buffet. A beautiful experience. And from there by train to the airport.

  22. Jan says up

I once went to eat in Lebua with my beloved, did not know it was a 2-star restaurant, after dinner, 400 euros everything included, even moving inside during a rain shower.
Didn't regret it, food, drinks, service and location were top notch.

  23. Jack says up

The Mahanakhon Tower: beautiful location, amazing view, affordable. Next to Chong Nonsi BTS, Silom.
