Classics in Thailand: "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Thailand's nightlife is rich with bands playing live music. Most musicians, both Thai and Filipino, play the popular English-language hits, often from the 60s, 70s and 80s and sometimes supplemented with Thai hits. In the series of classics in Thailand, today attention to "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" by Creedence Clearwater Revival, which you invariably hear in the nightlife of Pattaya, for example.
Earlier we wrote about the song 'Zombie' by The Cranberrys, an eternal hit in Thailand and about the classic 'Hotel California' of the Eagles,'Take Me Home Country Roads' and "Wind of Change“. Today we write about the legendary band Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Creedence Clearwater Revival (abbreviated: CCR) is an American rock band from the 60s that became known for their distinctive sound. The band was formed in 1959 in El Cerrito, California, by singer and guitarist John Fogerty, his brother guitarist Tom Fogerty, bassist Stu Cook and drummer Doug Clifford. The band had its biggest hits in the period 1968-1972.
The group played a mixture of rock, blues, country and folk and had many hits during their career, including “Proud Mary”, “Bad Moon Rising”, “Fortunate Son” and “Who'll Stop the Rain”. The music was characterized by Fogerty's signature singing voice and the band's tight, energetic rhythms.
Woodstock
Creedence Clearwater Revival was one of the headliners at the iconic Woodstock music festival in 1969. The band's performance was held on the final day of the festival, Sunday, August 16, and was one of the highlights of the event. The Creedence Clearwater Revival performance started early in the morning and lasted until noon. The band played some of their biggest hits, including "Proud Mary" and "Suzie Q". Their tight performance was well received by the audience and CCR's performance was regarded as one of the highlights of the festival.
A small selection of CCR's many hits:
- “Proud Mary”
- "Bad Moon Rising"
- "Fortunate Son"
- “Green River”
- “Down on the Corner”
- “Who'll Stop the Rain”
- “Up Around the Bend”
- “Lookin' Out My Back Door”
- “I Put a Spell on You”
- “Lodi”
“Have You Ever Seen The Rain”
"Have You Ever Seen the Rain" is a song by Creedence Clearwater Revival that was released on their album "Pendulum" in 1970. The song was written by the bandleader John Fogerty and was one of the band's biggest hits. The song is about the emotional consequences of the end of a relationship and the expectations of the new life that comes from it. The text “have you ever seen the rain, coming down on a sunny day?” is a metaphor for this.
Creedence Clearwater Revival was one of the most successful rock bands of the 60s and left a lasting influence on rock music. Their music is still popular today and is often played on the radio, movies and television shows. The band broke up in 1972, but their music remains an important part of rock history and every time I hear them in Thailand I thoroughly enjoy them.

Another bonus for fans of CCR's music, the 10 minute long live version by Suzie Q, with a great guitar solo at the end;
I got to know them through Proud Mary, which later got another great cover by Ike and Tina Turner.
Anyway I was immediately sold and a fan of CCR.
Later, much later, I heard that John Fogerty had made quite a few solo albums, but in a different way.
aiaiai,
Great music from my wild years.
Reminds me of the black and white shots from '69 of Woodstock. Was immediately hooked on numerous Woodstock artists.
For me it was the successor to soul music, but I still remain a fan of soul and blues music.
“I put a spell on you” stands out in my opinion. When it comes to the rougher genre, this is in my opinion one of the best pop songs ever. Normally I prefer soft rock, ballads and popular classical music.
I made a classical arrangement of “I put a spell on you” last year, including violins. Sounds very different and yet the same. You must have something to do when you live in Thailand.

That's right Eric, also an iconic song. But the list of CCR hits is so long. I also deliberately chose songs that are often played in Thailand. I personally think the live version of Suzie Q is great.
