How much money do you spend per day in Thailand? That depends on what kind of traveler you are. Thailand is generally regarded as an affordable destination for tourists, especially when compared to many Western countries. Accommodations, food and drink, transportation and activities can often be found at a lower price than what one would pay in many other countries.

Thailand is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. It is a country full of history and culture, beautiful beaches, amazing food and friendly people. Whatever you're looking for in a vacation, you can probably find it in Thailand.

How much money do you spend per day in Thailand?

  • Accommodation: A hostel costs on average around 200-500 THB (5,40-13,50 EUR) per night. A budget hotel costs around 500-1500 THB (13,50-40,50 EUR), while luxury hotels or resorts start at around 3000 THB (81 EUR).
  • Voedsel: Street food is very affordable, with meals ranging from 30-50 THB (0,80-1,35 EUR). A meal in a restaurant costs about THB 100-200 (EUR 2,70-5,40) on average.
  • Transportation: Transport costs may vary depending on the distance and type of transport. A short tuk-tuk or taxi ride can cost around THB 100-200 (EUR 2,70-5,40). Longer distances, such as between cities, will cost more.
  • Activities: The cost of tourist activities can vary greatly. Entrance fees to national parks or historical sites can vary between THB 100-500 (EUR 2,70-13,50).

Based on these estimates, as a budget traveler you could spend around 1000-1500 THB (27-40,50 EUR) per day, while a more comfortable travel style could cost you around 2000-4000 THB (54-108 EUR) per day . A luxurious experience, including staying in high-end hotels, eating in luxury restaurants and participating in more expensive activities, can easily cost more than 5000 THB (135 EUR) per day.

Daily expenses in Thailand depend on your travel style and preferences

The daily expenses in Thailand naturally depend on your travel style and preferences:

  • If you're a real backpacker If you spend the night in hostels, eat on the street and organize a lot yourself, you can get by on about €30 per person per day.
  • A more realistic amount for one budget traveler is €50 – €75 per person per day.
  • If you have more one middle class traveler and like to sleep in good three-star hotels, like to eat more in restaurants than on the street and like to do organized excursions, then count on around €75 – €100 per person per day.
  • Are you a luxury traveler and you go every day for luxury hotels and chic restaurants. and if you would like to be transported by private drivers, count on at least €150 per person per day.

These amounts are estimates and the actual costs may vary depending on various factors such as the current exchange rate, the season, the specific places you visit in Thailand, and your personal spending habits.

It also depends a lot on where you are traveling in Thailand.
Last January / February we were incl. rental car and very nice hotels in Isan, so 80 euros per day out with good food (available so far) and beer.
And we didn't look a penny!
In the south in the more touristy places it can easily cost double for 2 people.

The calculation is about right, but people forget that the tourist also has to pay 800 euros for his flight to Thailand and if he still wants to visit a few places in Thailand, he has to book a flight each time. A flight also counts for a taxi hotel airport and vice versa so that the costs add up quite a bit, eg taxi airport phuket to hotel patong is 20 euros.
There is also a big difference whether you travel alone or with 2, as the costs of hotel, taxi, etc ... are the same for one person as for two.
Count on 2500 euros/month for a single traveler in regular hotels.

For 800 euros to Bangkok for your flight? I don't think you can fly that cheap right now.

        Jan,

I just got an E-mail from Emirates

        Amsterdam Bangkok € 779,-
        Amsterdam Phuket €859

It pays to create an account with companies.

Is it true that the sandbox companies are currently “stunting” with cheaper tickets, in total
they are certainly 150/200 more expensive than precorona.
In terms of expenses, a place to sleep is super affordable, food does not cost much (local food) Western food, on the other hand, can cost quite a bit. The further costs are often in going out / and love, the last 2 are the real killers.

Going out can also be cheap depending on where you are. In Bangkok on the Khaosan it is a lot cheaper than for example Soi Cowboy. The cheapest option is to just buy a bottle of drink in a bar, Sangsom, my favorite costs an average of 10 euros and a coke 50 cents. I pour 7 glasses there. Eat delicious street food, but I never pay more than 400 baht for a western meal. Long story short, it really depends on your priorities and where you are in Thailand.

800 euros for a direct flight is not really in the coming year. With a bit of luck here or there still well under a thousand if you choose through such an intermediary as 1Gate (I have not seen). Directly at KLM or Eva, from this summer to June, the prices for a return are around 1000 to over 1200 euros in economy class. From Amsterdam directly to other Asian cities I see comparable high amounts.

Before Corona I was still there for around 700 euros return (non-stop), immediately after corona for 800. But tapping down 1200... So I have to see if I will pack my bags in the near future. Paying 400 euros more than I am used to is a lot of money for me, I prefer to spend that in Thailand or elsewhere during the stay.

Moderator: Off topic. Everyone likes to stop with prices about airline tickets, that's not what the topic is about.

I happened to book last week for November 20 Etihad 902 euros return including hold luggage and seat choice. But December January February were immediately 400 + more expensive.

For years, I have had 80 euros per day for 2 people as a target amount for no backpack, but also no luxury holiday in expensive resorts and hotels.

It goes without saying that you also need a flight to get to Thailand at all, as Hugo writes above, but in principle it has nothing to do with the above question.
The question is, how much does a tourist IN THAILAND spend, and there the mentioned expenses are very realistic.
And regarding an airline ticket price, if I do include this theme, although it is not a file of the question, it depends very much on when I book it, and whether I want to purchase a slightly longer layover.
We live in Munich, and fly from there in the high season December with Saudia Airways with 2 people, including seat reservation and baggage declaration, together for 937,14 Euro.
Admittedly with a stopover of about 4.5 hours and already booked in Feb, which I then gladly buy with the money I earned.
With this flight we earn together at least 1000 euros, which I can then spend as easy pocket money in Thailand.

I notice that it is becoming more expensive in Thailand. Traveled around for 28 days last April/May and spent a total of 200 a day. This includes 3 domestic flights, accommodation in 4 star hotels, five days car rental and some attractions visited with entrance fees. What has become especially expensive is going out. Some drinks for me (no beer) and sometimes giving some drinks away to some ladies and food costs a lot.

  6. khun moo says up

    Yes,

seems like a realistic amount to me.

if you spend 2 weeks in a quiet spot outside the tourist stream on the coast, you will arrive at a completely different amount.
We will then come with 2 people at 50 euros per day.
My Thai wife eats Thai which is cheap.

What you want to spend on a holiday in Thailand is entirely up to you!
My tip is that you have at least the same quality of accommodation, travel and food as at home in the Netherlands, Belgium or anywhere else.
If you sit under it, you no longer talk about "vacation" but about "survival"
Holiday is enjoying and not turning over every euro / bath!

We live in Thailand. When we travel we stay in nice hotels for around 1000 Baht per night including breakfast. Often hotels with a perfect air conditioning room also nice pool and nice bathroom. Also TV and Wi-Fi.

I don't know where in NL or B you can show me a hotel where I can find a nice room, a nice bathroom, a swimming pool or even a fitness room... as well as a breakfast buffet for 25 euros??? For 150 maybe, but then you'll have to search really hard.

We are going next year for 2 months feb and mon. we paid a return ticket with Thai airways only 759€ per person. booked in august.

  9. Luit van der Linde says up

Everything has become 10 percent more expensive since July at least, as the Thai baht has risen rapidly against almost all other currencies.
Only the Malaysian ringgit of the neighbours can still keep up somewhat.

Our ticket for November 28, 24 to January 28, 25 costs 607 euros with Qatar
