Is there such a thing as perfect beauty? Something you never let go of? An image that is so beautiful that it evokes a certain emotion. The feeling that you are a privileged person because you can see this?

Yes, it exists! It is called Ang Thong (Mu Koh Angthong National Marine). It is a national park located 31 km northwest of Koh Samui. The protected area covers an area of 102 km² and consists of 42 islands.

The limestone rocks on the islands are lush. On the white beaches there are swaying palms, the islands are surrounded by coral reefs. The color of the sea water is clear turquoise. A tropical paradise. If you are lucky, you can even see dolphins, because at the end of the year dolphins seek shelter in the waters near Ang Thong.

The name of the park, Ang Thong, or 'Golden Bowl', refers to the blue-green seawater lagoon of Talay Nai. It is a kind of lake surrounded by steep limestone rocks. The scenic lake can be reached from Koh Mae Ko beach. It is a bit of a climb via a narrow and fairly steep path (not suitable for the elderly and if you have difficulty walking).

What you should definitely do is a climb to the viewpoint at an altitude of 400 meters, which is also quite steep. You will then be rewarded with a view that is truly unparalleled. You reach this point from Koh Wua Talab beach. Enjoy spectacular rock formations, white beaches, wild animals, an unprecedented fauna, secret caves and hidden lagoons.

The Ang Thong National Park seems almost unreal, a kind of fairy tale. The story goes that Alex Gardner, author of the bestseller 'The Beach', got his inspiration here on Ang Thong. The book was later made into a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The footage for the film was not shot on Ang Thong but on Ao Maya on Kho Phi Phi. I've been there too, but Ang Thong is even more beautiful than Maya beach.
