In Thailand, many illegal structures are built on stolen land. On the islands alone, 1,6 million rai of land is said to be illegally used. This almost always concerns bungalow parks that have been built on government grounds.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment wants to reclaim it. Since 2014, 435.731 rai have been seized. Of the 1,6 million rai, 800.000 rai consists of forest area.

Ministry inspections last year found 1.939 resorts built illegally on land in protected forest areas. That number has since increased to 2.212. Forest land is mainly taken to cut down trees for the construction of their bungalows.

Land grabbing doesn't just happen on the islands. One area that has often been in the news is the Phu Thap Boek mountain in Phetchabun, which is home to a large number of illegal resorts. The first has already been demolished with the permission of the judge.

The province of Loei is also suffering from the land grab. Loei once had 1 million rai of forests, of which 200.000 to 300.000 rai are left.

Let's hope that after demolition, they will also replant the soil at the expense of the previous demolition.

Incomprehensible that all this can be done and wait so long to intervene.
I don't think this is done by an ordinary Thai with his 10.000 TBH in the month.

the big problem comes when the resorts demand back their bribes from appropriate officials who failed to notice the illegal activities.

More resorts and hotels are needed to accommodate the ever-increasing flow of tourists. That becomes urgent if many are broken down at the same time. Also in Phuket I recently read that there are many hotels that do not have the correct papers.

Nice if you have bought something as a farang that is not legal. Islands like Koh Samet are national parks. Yet it is teeming with pubs. In other parks you are not even allowed to drink a beer, but at Samet you can just get drunk in the middle of the National Park with everyone's approval. Long live corruption.
