Dear readers,

Normally I order a mobile phone through Lazada, except if the difference is more than 40% compared to the price on Aliexpress. Due to the free trade agreement with China, many things are free of import duties and you only pay shipping costs, 7% VAT and any customs clearance costs. However, I have no experience yet with paying these taxes in Thailand.

Can you verify from your own and recent import experience whether the rates published on the websites below are somewhat correct?

1) Import Tariffs: The Thai government has this site: http://itd.customs.go.th/igtf/th/main_frame.jsp. Here, for example, I find that a mobile phone (code 8517.12.00) from China has no tax. On this site you can enter a short description such as “phone” and find out the rate. There is another site https://www.simplyduty.com/import-calculator/, easy to use, and in my case comes with the same rate as the government website.

2) The seller sends my package via DHL. In addition to the shipping costs, I have lost customs clearance costs at DHL. On this DHL site http://www.dhl.co.th/exp-en/express/customs_support/customs_services.html, I read that there are 2 types of customs clearance charges: Advance Payment and Disbursement.

I assume I only lost 1 kind of customs clearance fee and not both. I read that the fee is at least 200 baht.

Regards,

Eddy

Here is Thailand's official customs webpage.
A lot of information can be found there, but the same as with a visa / residence, some people have different rules and rates.

    Amounts vary greatly.
But whatever percentage the post uses in this case, the buyer always has to pay 200 baht for the note on which all this is noted.
This is the amount from over a year ago, when I still paid everything by visa.
So that 200 baht will also have been increased by now.

I have already ordered electronics from abroad a few times and then paid all costs via the website, including the import costs. A beamer on Ebay from Hong Kong, a watch via aliexpress and even a bread maker. The items were always neatly delivered to my home within the announced time. I personally had nothing to do with customs.
You don't have to worry about that at all. You will see the final price including shipping and import costs when purchasing. And then you can decide whether it's worth it or not.
