Reader question: Kanchanaburi with private tour or not?
Dear readers,
At the end of April I will go to Thailand with my girlfriend for 17 days (4 days Bangkok, 4 days Chiang Rai and 7 days Hua Hin).
I have been with my husband a few times before and then we visited Kanchanaburi, among other places. I would also like to do this again with my girlfriend. But I doubt whether we will plan it from Bangkok (shortly after our arrival, so maybe a jet lag) or better from Hua Hin where we will be a bit longer and probably a bit more acclimatised.
We are not "beep" anymore but still very active but also a bit spoiled. We therefore do not want to pay all kinds of visits to shops or temples that are not interesting for us.
So…probably a private tour. Or who can advise me?
Yours faithfully,
In
You already gave the answer yourself: a group tour goes to the common denominator of interest (or even worse: where the tour operator benefits the most).
And… you should not embark on tiring trips if you are not fit, so still with a jet lag… go to sleep!
( once with a customer, who wanted to get 100% benefit from his tour, already planned the first visit at 10:00 am at a foil manufacturer. After fifteen minutes his eye shutters sagged ... not to mention the rest of the day .)
Dear Nell,
From Bankok you are closest to the destination, but it is perfectly doable from Hua Hin.
Recently did that myself with a Thai lady as a guide. She took us to a beautiful accommodation where we spent a wonderful night for 1.000 Bath after the first day.
She knew how to take us to the most beautiful places. Highly recommended and the cost is much lower than one
Through a local agency, which provides day trips.
I am also in Hua Hin during that period. Sossssss
Hi Jan,
Thank you also for your response. Do you perhaps have an address?
I would arrange that nicely from Hua Hin.
Find a nice taxi driver and say that you would like a half-hour tour of Hua Hin and ask what that costs.
If that is a decent price and you like it, you say that you want to go to Kanchanaburi with him the next day.
Field research might cost you 5 euros per person and you either end up with a nice driver, or you have become wiser again.
And you will at least have an experience that you can share with the readers here.
Hello French,
It has almost become clear to me. Wait until the "end" of our holiday and arrange the trip to River Kwai from HH. Thanks for your comment
Maybe a good idea to spend the first night in Bangkok and go directly to Kanchanabury the next day with a large luxury bus?
Bus journey takes 4 hours. Just google it to see where the bus departs from.
2 years ago we did a private tour from Hua Hin with our family (2 adults and 5 children) with a visit to Kanchanaburi and Erawan waterfalls.
Hired a minivan with guide and driver and overnight in a tree house on the River Kwai, not a tourist in sight if you can organize your own time.
Perfectly doable….
Also done 2 years ago from Hua Hin, perfect to do.
Minivan with guide and driver hired and with our family (2 adults and 5 children)
Visited Kanchanaburi, Erawan and Hellfire Pass, an overnight stay on the River Kwai where we were with another Dutch family, so wonderfully quiet !!!!
Hello John, thanks for your response. We basically wanted to do it in one day. You got us thinking about maybe adding an overnight stay. But do you remember how long the trip is from HH to River Kwai?
Take a private driver + car and let you drive and stop where you want. Just organized another trip with minibus (2300 THB/day + gas) from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi for 3 days. Usually minivans with driver cost around 4000 THB per day all charges included.
From Hua Hin is doable. look on Facebook to hua hin forum and especially Goy Bravo she arranges a lot of transport anywhere in thailand. And the prices are good . she arranges a lot for expats in Hua Hin, who also speak very highly of her services.
We will be in Hua Hin for 4 weeks in March and also want to go to Kanchananburi for 2 days.
Have searched a lot on the internet but will probably do a 2 day tour with Western Tours.
They also have a 1 day tour but that all seems a bit rushed to me.
I'll share my experience with you here when we've done it.
And if anyone has something positive or negative to say about Western Tours, I'd love to hear it too.
Hello Pieter,
I/we would like very much. I am curious about your experiences. Thank you very much Nell
A trip from HH is perfect to do to Kanchanaburi. I have a B&B in Hua Hin and can arrange your accommodation + trip if you wish. Take a look in advance http://www.villabaanmalinee.com.
Welcome and wish you a great stay in Thailand. Greetings
Hi Marleen,
Thanks for your comment. “Unfortunately” we have already booked a hotel in HH. But if you don't mind, we would be happy to come and visit you at that time and you can give us tips about our trip. Your B&B looks fantastic. Maybe this for next time. Bye??
