An excellent way to explore Bangkok is a boat trip on the Chao Phraya River. The Chao Phraya plays an important role in the history of Bangkok. Over the centuries, many temples and other sights were built on the banks of the river.

The river's many branches form the channels that connect the heart of the city to the suburbs. A boat trip on one of those canals or 'klongs' is therefore a must. Nice to see are the floating markets where you can buy the most delicious fresh fruit and vegetables. The National Museum, Grand Palace, Wat Po and Wat Arun can be easily reached by river taxi, which stops at various stops.

Two river taxi services shuttle back and forth across the Chao Phraya River: the public commuter service, is busy but cheap. Buy a day ticket for the Express Boat. You can then get on and off wherever you want. A guide on board the boat provides text and explanations of the sights along the way. When darkness sets in, the river reflects the many lights on its banks. An evening cruise is the best way to see the lights of Wat Arun.

Take the Skytrain to Saphan Taksin station on the Silom Line in Sathon District. The station is located at the beginning of the Taksin Bridge, under Sathon Road, east of the Chao Phraya River. Here you can board the Chao Phraya Express Boat.
