So it was and so it will be again
This couple went on a two week tour last September Thailand. From Bangkok to Chiang Mai, back to Cha-Am to rest and back home via Bangkok. Run, fly, dive, sail and get up again. Sit back and enjoy. The music is also very appropriate:

I don't think now is the right time. Drainage channels can no longer cope. One billion cubic meters is heading for BKK. To put that into perspective a bit; so far 'only' 300 million cubic meters of water have flowed into the city and the city now has to deal with that amount of water. So another mass of water that is three times as large is coming this way. Everyone can calculate for themselves within what period the city will be dry again and the rubble removal can begin…
John, I understand that and I agree with you. Something light every now and then is even good and seems to be a good stress reliever. What really worries me is that the authorities here are suffering from a serious form of “self-dillusionment”. In my opinion, mass evacuation must start now with the help of other countries, otherwise a humanitarian crisis is imminent. The city is getting fuller and fuller. There's no stopping it anymore. Tap water will soon be polluted and the diseases that will then break out will multiply faster than the speed at which the water moves towards BKK. Believe me, Bangkok is going under. Even a child understands this when he simply looks at the volume of water moving southward.
I hope that in a week's time I will look like a monkey with this ominous messenger. I really hope so…
Then I can help you hope, because it is expected that the big 'run off' BKK will arrive.
Tomorrow evening the NL embassy in BKK is organizing a meeting about the floods with Adri Verwey as a speaker. Is anyone else from the editorial office going there?
@ Mark, the editors have not been invited by the embassy.
Peter, I don't think you have to either. You can register via the site of the Netherlands Thai Chamber of Commerce (www.ntccthailand.org).
Cor, I in turn will also put things into perspective if you don't mind: those 1 billion cubic meters certainly won't come all at once. Whether much more of Bangkok will be flooded depends on how large the gradual supply is (e.g. per hour) and how much water the city can process per hour of the total amount you mentioned.
@Robert, but that's exactly the problem, the drainage roads can no longer handle the supply (they couldn't before), but now hundreds of canals are overflowing, so there is hardly any drainage. Again, I hope a layman if I'm wrong. However, the water mass is so great that only a biblical miracle can save us and the bible has failed for about two thousand years ;-((
Well, the water is not yet at Rama 9 and there seems to be a huge drainage tunnel there with sufficient capacity. I'm not an expert either, maybe you'll be right, but let's not get ahead of what can happen either. I certainly don't want to downplay the enormous disaster, but occasionally I read more panic, emotion and speculation than fact.
We are going to Thailand on November 15 for a round trip to Shang Rai and back. Give me a prediction. Kind regards, Jos
Ask your tour operator. It is responsible for implementation. For predictions you have to go to a fortune teller.
immediately get very homesick, and feel sorry for the thai people what is happening now
