Bangkok has several floating markets, these are fun to visit and photograph. If you want to visit a Floating Market that is not overrun by foreign tourists, you should take a look at the Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market. This market is located near the more famous Taling Chan Floating Market.

Lat Mayom is a floating market that is mainly visited by locals. It is best to visit this market early in the morning, otherwise it will be quite busy. When you arrive, you will discover that there are many market stalls along the parking lots and also along the canals.

Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market

The Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market has existed since 2004 and was created by the local population following the success of the Taling Chan floating market. However, the Lat Mayom is more of a green market. The market is famous for its many organic vegetables, freshly cooked delicacies and homemade desserts. You will find the food vendors both on land and on the canals. You can take a seat along the shore and pick something tasty from the boats that pass by. In many cases it is prepared for you on the spot. The stalls at the orchard mainly sell local products and souvenirs according to the OTOP concept.

The best thing about this floating market is trying out all the delicious dishes. It is therefore best to go here with an empty stomach. Be sure to try Kuay Tiaw Kua Gai, a tasty noodle dish with chicken and egg.

A visit to a floating market is of course not complete without a trip with a boat on the klongs. You will then discover life on the water and how the locals use the canals for trade and daily life.

You can explore the immediate area in a small boat for only 10 Baht per person. A longer trip with a longtail boat is also possible. The 90-minute boat trip costs only 50 Baht per person. The boats leave when there are at least 15 people in the boat.

How do you get there?

Klong Lat Mayom Floating Market is located on Bang lamad Road in Taling Chan, Thonburi, Bangkok. By bus, take line 146 to Kanchanaphisek Road and get off at Samakom Chao Pak Tai offices. Then take a songthaew (Rod Fai-Wat Pu Theun route) to Bang Ramat Road which takes about 15 minutes. Another option is to take the Skytrain to Talad Phlu station (the last BTS station on the Silom Line) and take a taxi from there.

This is indeed a beautiful floating market where few foreigners come. I sometimes get there when I take the boat at the Floatng market Talingchan around the corner from me. This 3-hour boat trip (cost 99 baht) also calls at Lad Mayom. Then you can walk around for 30 minutes, but that is really too little time. In addition to fantastic food, the market also has a number of very nice furniture and home accessories shops. Have already bought many wooden products such as a salad bowl.
Saw about 2 months ago that the market is significantly expanded.

This is definitely a beautiful market, but this market is not floating, unless you mean the few boats in the small canal. The market is open on Saturdays and Sundays from half past eight. The best time to visit this market is between 9:09 and 00:10 in the morning.

I have seen this market grow into one of the bigger ones in and around Bangkok. For so-called street food, few markets can match this one. I do see that prices keep rising due to the popularity and unfortunately the long tail boats with tourists have also discovered the market.
