The Huay Mae Khamin waterfall (Srinakarin Dam National Park) in Kanchanaburi is one of them. This piece of natural wonder can be considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls from Thailand. The waterfall therefore has no less than 7 levels. The waterfall Huay Mae Khamin is located in the Sri Nakarin Dam National Park.

The waterfall flows from the Khao Kala, an all-season green forest in the east of Srinakarin Dam National Park, and flows into the reservoir of Srinakarin Dam. The seven cascades are so beautiful and different, see them all and enjoy the dazzling flora and fauna.

Forests of Khuean Srinagarindra National Park in Kanchanaburi

Deep in the forests of Khuean Srinagarindra National Park in Kanchanaburi, lies one of the country's most breathtaking natural treasures: Huay Mae Khamin Waterfall. Often overlooked in favor of the more famous Erawan Waterfall, this beautiful waterfall is a haven of peace and beauty waiting to be discovered by adventurous travellers.

The Huay Mae Khamin Waterfall consists of seven levels, each with its own unique charm and scenic beauty. The water flows gently over limestone terraces, bordered by lush green vegetation and a rich variety of flora and fauna. The clear, turquoise water of the waterfall invites visitors to take a refreshing dip or relax in the natural pools found on every level.

The lush rainforest surrounding the waterfall is a vibrant ecosystem that is home to countless plant and animal species. While walking to the different levels of the waterfall, visitors can enjoy the sound of birds singing, the buzz of insects and the foliage rustling gently in the breeze. Keep your eyes peeled for the chance to catch colorful butterflies, rare bird species and maybe even a glimpse of the shy animals that live in the forest.

Visit waterfall

The best time to visit Huay Mae Khamin Waterfall is during the rainy season, from May to October. During this period, the water is at its fullest and most impressive, and the surrounding forest is at its greenest. However, be aware that some trails can be muddy and slippery during the rainy season, so make sure you have suitable footwear and take care when hiking.

To reach the waterfall, visitors must travel to Khuean Srinagarindra National Park, located about 100 kilometers west of Kanchanaburi. The journey can be made by rental car, scooter or by booking an organized tour. Once in the park, there are several hiking trails that lead to the different levels of the waterfall, varying in difficulty and length.

The distance from the first level to the fourth level is only 300-750 meters while the distance from the 5th level to the top of the waterfall is more than one kilometer.

The Huay Mae Khamin Waterfall offers beautiful and varied scenery. Nice to know, each level has a different name:

  • the 1st level: Dong Wan
  • the 2nd level: Man Khamin
  • the 3rd level: Wang Napha
  • the 4th level: Chat Kaew
  • the 5th level: Lai Long
  • the 6th level: Dong Phee Sua
  • the 7th level: Rom Klao

Each level is different in height and unique in its beauty.

I was there for the third time last February: this WAS a beautiful waterfall! Due to severe storms in October 2022, little of that is left! Entire parts of the walkways along the waterfall have been washed away, hiking trails have disappeared completely and everything is full of uprooted trees and shrubs. Only the upper level is somewhat worth it, but to make the long journey from Kanchanaburi for it: NO.

Of course you have to pay the full price for entrance and apart from a sign saying “sorry for the inconvenience” you have not heard or seen anything. I also didn't get the impression that people are busy making everything accessible again.

Thank you for sharing. I actually wanted to visit this waterfall in the short term. Anyway, just skip it if I hear it like that.

Then visit the Erawan waterfalls, which are a lot closer to Kanchanaburi and are definitely worth it!
