Phuket breathes (video)
In southern Thailand, in the Andaman Sea, is Thailand's largest and most popular island: Phuket. The hilly island (highest point at 516m) with a lot of deciduous forest, is 543km² in size (50 km long and about 20 km wide).
Anyone who says Phuket will also mention the large seaside resort of Patong Beach. A kilometre-long sandy beach and a lively nightlife attract a large international audience here. There are countless gogo bars, transvestite and beer bars, but also an extensive range of different restaurants and discotheques.
The smaller resorts of Karon Beach and Kata Beach are quieter and also have beautiful, wide sandy beaches. The seaside resorts on this island are located in bays, mainly on the west coast of the island.
It is striking that Phuket has hardly any high-rise buildings. Only in Patong Beach you will find some large (high) hotels On. There are a few luxury hotels in Bang Tao Beach, which are located in a beautiful hotel park in the middle of lagoons.
The island also serves as a starting point for boat and diving excursions to surrounding islands such as the Phi Phi Islands and a number of national parks, which contain a particularly beautiful landscape.
Phuket is connected to the mainland (Phang-Nga) by a bridge on the north side of the island.
