Anyone who travels to Thailand for a holiday has often already made plans on how to fill them in. These can be very different. Some people like to be active and experience it as relaxation. One of the ways to be active is to play golf. There are many options for beginners and advanced users.

In a radius of 35 kilometers from Pattaya there are 26 "championship standard courses" These have been laid out by the best golf architects and designers. Excellent club house facilities, restaurants sometimes swimming pools and massage facilities. Caddies show people around and give advice, this only for the price from 400 Baht, depending on what the customer wants. Anyone can get acquainted with this sport at affordable prices or try to raise the level to a higher level. Prices from 750 Baht at Crystal Bay to a weekend at the Siam Country Top Club for 5.000 Baht.

Through the various sites you can get an impression of the handicap software, so that you can follow yourself with the progress of the golf scores. Pattaya has many driving ranges where the “swing” can be practiced. There is such a practice area at Thungklom Tanman (Soi 89), where the performances are monitored via the computer.

Interesting for enthusiasts, who also want to get acquainted with this without a mandatory membership or having to be introduced and then pay the main price, as in a number of cases in the Netherlands.

Those are prices from 15 years ago. You pay 400 baht for a caddy and then a tip afterwards. Average prices for a round of golf can easily reach 2000 baht, plus transport.

I can speak from my own (very recent) experience and previous posts about golfing in Thailand. If you play golf in the Pattaya area with a golf society affiliated with the Pattaya Sport Club, you play for very little money. Yes, you are expected to tip the caddy (+/- 300 baht). But I still play on courses where green fee is only 700 baht and caddy fee only 280/300 baht. That is certainly not the case everywhere.

On average a round of golf costs me between 1300 and 1500 baht incl caddy tip but excluding transport. With a golf society that is also only about 300 baht.

I played golf 3 weeks ago:

June 19, Plutaluang Royal Thai Navy Golf, Green fee 400 baht, caddy fee 280 baht.
June 20 , Emerald , Green fee 700 baht, caddie fee 350 baht
June 21 , Pattavia, Green fee 600 baht, Caddie fee 350 baht

In 2018, golf in the region around Pattaya is still reasonably cheap in the low season. But even in high season, prices are not dramatically more expensive.

        Dear Willem,
I think a small correction is in order.
These are the prices you pay at the counter of the golf course but you overlook the 300 Bath tip at the end of the day. Now it looks like you paid 680, 1050 and 950 respectively, but there will now be another 300 baht. bee.

Sorry but I'm not overlooking anything. I only indicate the prices that will be charged. Earlier I spoke about the cadfie tip. It is not fixed, but that is ultimately up to you.

Are there similar possibilities (get acquainted without CFP) in the Chiang Mai region?

    • l.low size says up

Google: “Golf in Chiang Mai” , there are also a number of options.

    • willem says up

Yes, there are certainly opportunities in Chiang Mai to play golf without a CFP. That does not exist in Thailand.

It is expected that you know the basic rules and can play some golf without other flight constantly stopping.

In Chaing mai you can go to Stardome golf (near the airport). There they also have a good driving range and possibly also a golf pro to get a lesson.

Playing on this nice 9-hole golf course is also not expensive.

In Phuket pay 3 to 5 times more than in Pattaya to play golf. Unless you have Thai brnt and, for example, a good position with the police or local government. Then you only pay a few hundred baht. That's why I will never start playing golf in Phuket and all my Dutch acquaintances will play golf elsewhere.

A nice article and highly recommended.
As a member of Pattaya Golf and Country club, I would like to issue a warning to those wishing to play golf here.
In the sport of golf it is customary that you are in a "flight" of 4 people at most, so that it continues smoothly on the course. NOT ON PATTAYA GCC.
Here money plays a bigger role than common sense. Six buggies yield 50% more than four !
Over the last three months me and my wife have not been able to play all the holes as there is a build up of people gathering at the 15th and certainly the 16th tee.
Especially Koreans and older Thais who play for money cause this delay, but the main reason is that they are in flights of six.
I have clocked that they need between 6 and 10 minutes for each hole to get the six balls in the hole.
"Let through" seems to be a humiliation for the Koreans and certainly for the older wealthy Thai.
Played at Phoenix for the first time this week and this was a revelation.
My conclusion, prepare for a long day when you play at Pattaya Golf & Country club.

In 2 days I'm going to Thailand again, not only for my stepdaughter's wedding but also to play golf. I booked a weekend with 4 Thai men at the Mida Golf Club and resort in Kanchanaburi for thb.1800,= pp. This includes: 2x 18 holes with a handycart, 1 hour massage, overnight stay in a bungalow with ABF, and then the 2nd green fee. During the week this costs thb.1500,= pp the caddie fee is thb.350,= extra per round.
I am friends with 2 golfing Navy men and will also play golf at Plutaluang Royal Navy Golf Club. There they have an offer incl. overnight stay on the golf course of thb.1900, = pp, so also 36 holes incl. breakfast etc. and ex caddie fee.

You should know that it is now low season and you run the risk of a rain shower / downpour, but after that it is great to play golf. Hence the prices.
HAVE FUN AND KEEP ON SWINGING

About the caddy phenomenon tip the following.
When I started playing golf in Thailand many years ago, I asked an Englishman for advice. How much tip should you give a Caddy?

He replied: That is for you to decide. It's a hint. But you are expected to tip.
    He gave as a guideline.

200 baht if you are not really satisfied.
300 baht if she does her job reasonably normally.
400 baht for a good Caddy.
500 baht if you want to marry her. Wink.
