Koh Lipe is a small island in the province Satun, in the far south of Thailand, near the border with Malaysia. It is also called the Maldives of Thailand because the island can compete with that tropical paradise. The crystal clear sea, colorful coral reefs, tropical fish and dazzling white beaches appeal to the imagination.

Koh Lipe is the only inhabited island of the ten that make up the Andang Archipelago. There are three larger beaches on the island, all of which you can visit in an hour's walk.

Pattaya Beach is the main beach on Koh Lipe. It is a large sheltered bay with soft powdery sand, crystal clear blue water. You can snorkel well from the beach. Sunrise Beach (Hat Chao Ley) and Sunset Beach (Hat Pramong) are the other beaches of note. Accommodations can also be found on these three beaches, from beach huts to hotel rooms with air conditioning.

Akira Lipe Resort is perhaps the best resort on the island. It is located directly on Pattaya beach, just a few minutes' walk from the Walking Street promenade, with many restaurants, shops and bars. Akira has a nice rooftop bar. The resort is perfect for lovers of a quiet sun holiday, snorkelers, divers and people who like to combine that with a visit to a restaurant, a terrace and a drink.

  1. Hans says up

Was there in March during my solo sea kayaking tour to replenish my supplies.
Very, very touristy. Got the Ko Phi Phi feeling there. Not for me and was gone as soon as I got my supplies.
Ko Adang, Ko Rawi (no overnight stay possible), Ko Tarutao and Ko Bulon were fantastic and almost without tourists.
