Khlong Lan National Park in Kamphaeng Phet

The Province Kamphaeng Phet is not an obvious tourist destination, but is definitely worth a visit.

Those who regularly drive on Asian Highway 1 between Bangkok and the North must have noticed the many stalls selling bananas, banana shoots and other banana products. Don't expect luxurious hotels or exciting attractions. But if you are looking for a serene place, rich in history and natural resources, Kamphaeng Phet is the province to be.

Kamphaeng Phet Province also has historical significance. Located in the lower north of Thailand, formerly known as "Chakungrao City", it is an important archaeological site. Not to forget, the province is home to the Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park. The Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park consists of city walls, moats, fortifications and ancient temples such as Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Chang Rob, Wat Phra Si Iriyabot with excellent laterite architecture and that is why the temple is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

For nature and adventure in the province, both Khlong Lan National Park and Mokju Peak in Mae Wong National Park are interesting. In winter, the top is covered in fog. Tourists are sure to visit Nakorn Chum retro market to buy local products. Kamphaeng Phet's well-known products are bananas and Chakungrao grass jelly.

The province is about 358 kilometers from Bangkok. Kamphaeng Phet borders Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Phichit, Nakhon Sawan, Tak. So from Kamphaeng Phet you can easily make trips to the other provinces such as Sukhothai.

Mokochu peak in Mae Wong National Park – Kamphaeng PhetI never knew there were 150 different kinds of bananas. They can be seen in the orchard behind the Chalerm Phrakiat National Museum. A striking banana is the kluay tanee dum, which grows on an almost black tree with black petioles and leaves that resemble the camouflage outfit of soldiers. The red banana is considered an offering to the gods. The banana shoots are for sale in the museum, as well as at the Banana Market along Asian Highway 1.

We sometimes sleep there when we drive to Bangkok. Sometimes too tired to drive in 1 go
The hotels are best for 1 night.
There is also a nice restaurant on the water

The old town is beautiful. There has been a visitor center for a few years now. and free Wi-Fi is available at key points in the city.

Been coming there for 17 years, and hardly see any tourist buses.

We always spend the night there when we drive north.
Nice hotels on the water with wifi and ac for 500/600 baht incl. a simple breakfast.
There is a beautiful park with a historical museum just over the bridge turn left.
The restaurant on the water is definitely recommended.

A very nicely renovated museum, especially with old ceramics. I much prefer to visit khampeng phet than ayuttaya: here the ruins in the teak forest radiate tranquility. Not a tourist in sight. Nice restaurant also on the old ramparts but I have lost the name. We recently stayed in a B&B owned by an Austrian citizen and his Thai wife, about 15 km away. Still naked rooms but ok and with a swimming pool

don't tell anyone otherwise crowds of tourists will also come here.
I hardly ever come across a tourist or “local Farang” here in the city, wonderful.

    Greetings from Josh

Another 'must see' in Kamphaeng Phet is the Phra Ruang hot spring.

We were also with the Austrian and his Thai wife. _Friendly people. Super nice rooms and there was a nice clean swimming pool. After 2 weeks of delicious Thai food, we have a schnitzel with fries.
We woke up very early to a sound car passing through the village.

I go there every year to visit a good friend in khlong phikrai .. You don't have to come there for the nightlife, but there is a lot to see. Go out with a local and discover the many temples and mountain caves there. Not far from Phitsanoluk, which in itself is a beautiful city where you will find few tourists. Nice airport and hotels are very cheap. Sukothai is also recommended because of the large historical park there. Away from the hustle and bustle and discover nature.

Can you easily get there from Bangkok by train or express bus?
