5 popular holiday islands in Thailand
Our five popular holiday islands in Thailand are:
- Koh Phi Phi: Known for its clear waters and lively parties. Koh Phi Phi Don, the largest island, attracts visitors with beach parties and fire shows, while Koh Phi Phi Lee is famous for Maya Bay, known from the movie “The Beach”.
- Koh Tao: This island is known as the diving paradise of Thailand. With its clear blue water, rich underwater world, and affordable diving schools, Koh Tao is ideal for both diving and snorkeling.
- Similan Islands: These islands are a divers' paradise with their silvery white beaches, azure sea, and vibrant coral reefs. They are part of the Similan Marine National Park, a world-famous diving location.
- Koh Lipe: Located in the far south of Thailand, this island is a secluded paradise, perfect for snorkeling and diving amid tropical fish species and colorful coral.
- Koh Yao Islands (Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi): These lesser-known islands are located between Krabi and Phuket. They offer a more authentic Thai experience with deserted beaches and vast palm plantations.
These islands are sought after for their natural beauty, exceptional diving and snorkeling opportunities, and mix of lively parties and tranquil, unspoilt areas. They offer a diverse experience to travelers, from adventurous water sports to relaxing in remote, natural beauty.

Koh Phi Phi is beautiful but also very expensive.
Koh Lanta is very beautiful and highly recommended and much cheaper than Phi Phi.

It's funny that Koh Yao islands (Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi) are included and are not that popular at all given the number of visitors to these islands, hopefully it will remain that way, just like Koh Kood, for example.
The title 5 popular islands in my opinion suggests more of the tourist islands such as Phuket and Koh Samui.
Before the tsunami, Koh Phi Phi was the most beautiful island in Thailand. Now most terribly busy place!
Became the Ibiza of Asia. Eternally a shame.
