Question about residence permit for my Thai wife
Dear editors,
I have a question about the 5-year residence permit that the IND issues after approval of the MVV application. Suppose the following occurs: my wife's MVV application has been approved and she would therefore receive a residence permit for 5 years. However, her passport is only valid for 2 years. How does this work then? I remember that in the past a residence permit was only issued for the duration of the validity of the passport. In this case, that would be 2 years. If this is still the case, how will it continue after those 2 years?
After having searched the internet for a long time in vain, I ask my question on the forum in the hope of getting some clarity about the above situation.
Regards,
Martin
Dear Martin,
After entering the MVV, the VVR residence permit is ready at the IND after about 2 weeks. This is valid for 5 years and is separate from the validity of the Thai passport.
You are probably confused with a regular short-stay visa of 1 or more entries. There, the visa will not be able to exceed the validity period of the passport.
But that is not an issue with a VVR. You must, of course, arrange a new passport in good time when the passport expires. This can be done in Thailand or via the embassy in the Netherlands.
Good luck with the migration troubles!
