The dark days before Christmas
As Christmas approaches, Lieven lies ill in bed, dreaming of better times. Surrounded by cough syrup and paracetamol, he reflects on the irony of his situation: free from work but trapped in illness. Then a telephone call from his sister-in-law from England brings unexpected news, making him worry about the approaching holidays.
Seriously ill Belgian and for the very last time to Bangkok
My name is Pat, a 58-year-old from Antwerp. What happened to me in the past year is harrowing, if I do say so myself. As a very healthy, active, sporty and attractive man, I have been affected by a very rare terminal brain disorder, and I now have palliative status.
Allianz is not allowed to terminate travel insurance of a sick customer in Thailand
A sick insured of Allianz Global Assistance, who has been staying in Thailand for years, is still entitled to reimbursement of medical costs that he claims from the insurer. Allianz wrongly terminated the man's travel and cancellation insurance, on the grounds that they were staying abroad for more than 180 days. This is what the complaints institute KiFiD says.
Landed on a tropical island: I'll write it off…..
I've been in the Netherlands for a few months now and haven't been fit at all the last few days.
I divorced a Thai woman in 2006. We have a 26-year-old son, born in Belgium, who lives with me in Belgium. My ex-wife (mother) lives back in Thailand since the divorce. For several weeks she has been in the Bangkok hospital in Hua Hin with serious illness, liver cancer. So my son would love to visit her again. He has Belgian and Thai nationality.

Reader Submission: Dengue Fever Be Warned!
We left for Thailand on Boxing Day, our trip was planned until January 8 in Patong and then on to Krabi until January 18. In Patong we had booked an apartment as usual and because we had not been to Krabi yet, we had booked a hotel in Krabi with a little more luxury and a swimming pool so that we could enjoy it even more.
Reader question: Do Thai ladies have a sore throat?
Not an urgent question, but I was just curious. My Thai girlfriend goes to a doctor (hospital) for the least and wants as many pills as possible. She had caught a cold this week, nothing out of the ordinary. But back to the doctor right away. And pretend she's sick. Who said she was allergic to weather changes……!?! I had a good laugh about it, but of course she didn't like that. Do others recognize this too

Visa Thailand Q&A: What if you have a visa, get sick and it expires?
What if you get sick and your visa has expired? Last year we went to Thailand for 3 weeks and my husband was hospitalized in Chiang Mai, then we had enough leeway but what if this happens to us again
If you indeed live in Thailand as Farang and you are demented or bedridden by a serious illness, how can you meet your visa obligations? I mean the quarterly trips or the annual renewal.
I met a Dutchman of 87 years old in Thailand. This man has deregistered in the Netherlands and lives alone, secluded in a small house. After a number of hospital visits, it was determined that he has an accelerated form of dementia. He needs help, but how?
