Fairytale wintry white: the Wat Rong Khun in Chiang Rai
Especially when you visit Thailand more often, many Farang get the idea of, pff..... another temple, I've seen it now. But the "Wat Rong Khun" is really special and immediately stands out at first sight, even for a layman.
Temples in Chiang Rai: White or Blue?
In my opinion, a special temple that is much less known to the average Chiang Rai visitor is the Blue Temple, or Wat Rong Sue Ten. It only opened in 2016. The complex is (and will remain) a lot smaller than the White Temple, and the main color is – you guessed it – a beautiful blue.
A black museum and a white temple
Thailand's most famous artists Thawan and Chalermchai created two tourist attractions in Chiang Rai: Ban Daam (the black house) and Wat Rong Khun (the white temple). They represent different aspects of their Buddhist faith.

The 'white temple' located in the Don Chai Sub District – Amphur Muang in Chiang Rai is a sight that attracts many visitors. The temple is located in a unique complex and as mentioned, the main color is white. Even most of the fish (Koi's) in the ponds are white!

The famous 'White Temple' in Chiang Rai, Wat Rong Khun, was badly damaged by the May 5 earthquake in northern Thailand. This earthquake had a magnitude of 6,3 on the Richter scale.
