Some Thai people show solidarity with the monks during the spring and do not drink alcohol. Most of them only last a few days (similar to the good intentions of the Dutch) but a cousin of ours managed to keep it up.

October 1, 2020 is the next religious holiday in Thailand. Awk Phansa marks the end of the three-month Buddhist Lent and the traditional end of the rainy season.
Every year in Ubon Ratchathani, the beginning of the Khao Phansa (the Candle Festival), also known as Buddhist Lent, is celebrated. This is a three month period when the monks retreat to the temples to learn about Buddha's Enlightenment. This year, Khao Phansa Day is celebrated on July 28.

Today in Thailand the Buddhist Lent begins or the 'Buddhist Lent Day'. Buddhists are not allowed to drink alcohol on such days in Thailand.
